To really fucking hate energy saving lightbulbs?

Ok I realise it is a good thing that we use them and think we should but I hate the dim flourescent glow, am starting to notice it more now the nights are drawing in and remembering just how much it does my head in.

Agree but can see the point. They are ugly too.

I agree. I can't see a thing. Marking is almost impossible. Sometimes I go to switch the lights on, not realising they are already on.

Will hang on to old 100w bulb useage as long as I can.

Energy savers are shite.

I hate them too! Even more, I hate the no-wattage-no-light-emitting lamps that DP decorates the house with! I just want to be able to see my book/work/sewing/black cat that I'm about to tread on!

I didn't like the older ones that used to warm up before they came on properly but any we have bought recently are fine. Brighter, don't need to warm up and look like normal bulbs. They last ages as well.

get yourself some daylight simulation energy saving ones; they have a very clear white light and are very close to natural light. I have them in every light fitting now and find ordinary bulbs dim and 'yellow'

My very expensive Farrow and Ball paint went from lovely, warm, Mediterranean to dull, ugly gray. Yuk.

Especially when I am just popping into a room to get something. Fumbling about in the dark, bang into stuff, find it and out while they warm up!

Urgh.

The Migraine Association had a real beef with these: they're said to trigger migraines for some sufferers. Their morose grey light certainly is nauseating.

I can hardly see anything after dark since we've had energy savers everywhere. Have yet to trial the daylight simulation one I have as I accidentally bought a screw fitting one and don't have any handy lamps to put it in. I still have one halogen lamp that saves my eyes with I'm knitting or sewing but most of the time it's like living in the 18th century in our house.

We have one on the upstairs landing that only comes on if it thinks it's dark enough- which is almost never. It's where DS plays and I have to go through an elaborate ritual of closing doors, running downstairs to turn off downstairs lights etc before the bastard thing will deign to illuminate the area. And the worst thing of it is that it'll be years before the fecker burns out.

YANBU at all. Hate the bloody things and am now turning on more lights to try and lift the gloom. And using loads of candles

Really agree totally with CustardCake's points. I won't have them in the house and have removed and replaced a lightfitting due to the lack of 100W bulbs. I used to easily light the room I am in with a 100W bulb in the centre. Now, I have 5x40W mini bulbs in a more elaborate fitting. I didn't want to change the fitting - I just wanted to be able to see WTF I am doing!

Overall they have a very negative impact on the environment for many reasons. I don't know how the people in govt. can't understand this.

Ours keep giving out so they are an expensive habit!

cross eyed - with you on that one. The one in my ds room can last anything from 3 days to 3 weeks before it needs changing. Also only come on if they feel like it. Horrible things. You still cant see even when they are on full. They give out less light than a bloody toy torch.

The point my dh is always making twice a bloody week is that since the wasted energy in old-style bulbs is dissipated as heat, if you're heating your home anyway the heat is NOT in fact wasted but contributes to heating your house. And he is right.

Don't even get me started on the new bastard fittings they put in new build houses. Triple pin, only available online, mind numbingly expensive. Fuckers.

They don't last as long as advertised, maybe 1.5-2x as long as filament ones (on average, which means many only last about 1/10th as long!), but not 60x longer or whatever "they" say. I am far from convinced that they save us any money.

they are rubbish, they do not do what they are supposed to do ie light a space; the better ones are £8 each so a house worth is about £100 they still look rubbish etc a few old style a 100W bulbs would have been aboutr £5 lots of older people I know stockpiled. with them it's like living in dingevilla in dingetown of Dinge kingdom

and whatever they say about disposal i bet 95% of people who break them would just wrap and put in normal bin, they make money for someone they are not green or eco-friendly

Daylight energy saving bulbs are brilliant.

But....... there is a new even more energy saving bulb out now.
LED light bulbs that use only 2w of power so thats 80% less than 'normal' energy saving bulbs and give out a bright white light the instant they are switched on and they last 10x longer than current es bulbs.

One drawback is they are currently on sale in B&Q for £9 each! Having said that only a year ago they were £20 each.

They are awful. I am quite convinced we will see a rise in depression, migraines and probably some type of cancer related to them, not to mention that I have bad eyes and cant see properly with them, they have been linked to eczema, they dont FIT and they are so blooming expensive.

I wish i had a lightbulb factory because I would continue to make the proper ones and let them come and lock me up for it - I feel that strongly about it - and to add insult to injury you cannot properly cross stitch with them you cant seperate shades out properly.

Would it be frivolous to start a Campaign for Real Lighting?

Lets do it!!! How do we start?! Why the hell were they brought in anyway, do they really save that much energy, what about all the shops with escaltors permanently on, would that have been a good start?
