so it seems i made an error...my younger son was in fact not told off for saying the word bloody...it was the word heck...
i was just having a heart to heart with him about not saying bloody anymore...and i asked why he said it at school...and he said that he didnt say or get told off for saying bloody...it was for saying the word heck...aparently he said oh heck ...and he was just pointing out that the kids were saying he shouldnt say the word bloody and getting the 2 stories mixed up.
surely heck couldnt possibly be a swear word! ...let alone tell off-able??? o.O

So he did say yes he got told off for saying bloody when you asked him?

Hmm

I think you need to chill out a bit. You can't react like this every time he gets wrong at school for goodness sake!

He wasn't even bothered that much to tell you about it and you overheard it by eavesdropping...

Still despair at the drams

upahill · 11/10/2011 17:47

Is Heck a swear word? Is it fuck!!
Sorry I couldn't resist that!!!

No I am happy for my children to use it (although I know DS1 says a lot worse when I'm out of earshot!)

I use it alot when I don't want to swear and sometimes I feel a bit twee saying it but I don't mind!

Bugsy2 · 11/10/2011 17:48

Don't phone the school. This is not a school phoning worthy issue. Just tell your DS not to say heck in front of that teacher again. Whether he should have been told off for saying it is probably vaguely debatable - but you know what sometimes teachers tell kids off when maybe they shouldn't and sometimes you just have to let that slip. Doesn't sound like yoru DS got a complete lambasting or that he is traumatised - just let it go .........................

worraliberty · 11/10/2011 17:49

Head-Desk Head-Desk Head-Desk

You're missing my point entirely but I'll leave you to it Smile

BatsUpMeNightie · 11/10/2011 17:50

You might think you darling precious DS is not a liar - but I'm here to tell you that ALL kids tell little lies even if their adoring parents think they don't.

And are we really going to have all this every single bloody time your kid gets a wagging at school? Do you think he's some kind of blessed angel that would never ever do wrong? I've said it before and I'll say it again - I truly feel sorry for the school!

violet79 · 11/10/2011 17:50

kayano...
react like what exactly? how am i reacting? what drama? by posting a thread lightheartedly asking if others think its a swear word or not? it seems you and worral have brught the drama...thankyou for ruining another of my threads (worral) ...
thankyou to people who took time to post...but i think im going to have to leave it here as if you look at my other post i would need to book the rest of the week off work and get myself a lawyer if i continue down the path worral and kayano are taking this thread.

BatsUpMeNightie · 11/10/2011 17:52

You're going to leave it? Seriously?

Praise be for that then!

seeker · 11/10/2011 17:52

Oh, just go and talk to the bloody school and find out what really happened. If you must. Or just let it go. And do something to help your kids settle into their new school. Then in th Christmas holidays, after they've done a full term look again and decide whether it's the school for you. But try to meet them half way and don't see conspiracies round every corner.

Kayano · 11/10/2011 17:53

Really?
We ruined your thread by having a different view?
Maybe starting a thread after already having started another thread... That turned out to be incorrect anyway about quite possible the worlds most minute issue and telling off is a little OTT?

Just a thought.

I don't ruin threads, I participate in discussions ta

worraliberty · 11/10/2011 17:59

thankyou for ruining another of my threads (worral)

Oh grow up woman! I hardly posted at all on your other one compared to other posters and I certainly said nothing to 'ruin' it unless someone disagreeing with you 'ruins' it for you.

I didn't bother with that thread after yesterday because I came to the conclusion you were very probably an attention seeking dramallama.

Having just caught up with it, you are very definitely just that imo.

So your 'woe is me' act won't wash with me anyway.

VikingBlood · 11/10/2011 18:16

Different people have different standards, including teachers. For some people heck might be a swear word, for other it isn't. My DCs aren't allowed to say 'oh God' I front of my grandmother (nor am I for that matter).

The school where I work obviously doesn't allow inappropriate language (as do all schools to my knowledge), however there is no list of words deemed inappropriate and it's up to each member of staff to decided what's ok and what's not. There are teachers I know who wouldn't accept heck, just as they won't accept 'yeah' instead of yes. Others don't bat an eyelid at hearing 'shit' and even call naughty kids 'little buggers', the kids usually pick up what they can say to who and act accordingly. I tend to try and use the same language as I would around grandma, then, when I'm really pissed off I tell them to 'shut up' and it's pretty radical.

H3ck is a curse. Such a wish is an awful prayer. Reap.what you sow. Karma sees

AlaskanOilBaron · 11/06/2019 20:12

It's even worse than gosh.

I'm going to make some popcorn and stick around a while.

SupermassiveBlackHo · 11/06/2019 20:19

You might be waiting a long time - this is a zombie thread from 2011.

Pringlefan · 11/06/2019 20:33

I got ‘told off’ for swearing by a small child once. I’d said “Oh blimey”! I think it might be more to do with recognising the exasperated tone of voice as a ‘swear’, more than the word Grin
