to worry about flying Ethiopian Airlines?

I have a choice between a straight forward direct overnighter with Ethiopian. or a 24-hour monster with Lufthansa. I'm not a good flier. and yes I know I'm more likely to get smashed to bits on the motorway etc etc. My head knows that but my heart (already half way up my throat and going ten-to-the-dozen just thinking about this) doesn't appear to.less of aibu more of a wwyd?

I've experienced the last minute change of heart about landing. Twice. On the same flight. Austrain Airlines from Heathrow to Vienna. I was beginning to think the pilot had slept through the landing bit of flight school before he finally got the thing down, 3rd time lucky. It is the only time i have been on a flight full of business people (rather than package holiday makers) who have given thE pilot a round of applause after landing!

Clearly this thread is over a decade old. I imagine the OP has been on their holiday by now.
However, there is so much casual racism on this thread, and tropes about Ethiopia, I would like to put the record straight. Unlike many of the posters on the thread who don't seem to have ever set foot on the African continent, I have flown Ethiopian around nine times since 2010. All of these times were economy, except once when they upgraded us to business for free as at check in they saw our wedding pictures (we had just got married in Addis.) I've also flown Lufthansa many times, but mainly in the 90s when my parent lived there.
Ethiopian is a quality airline, the jewel in the crown of African airlines, and is a major component of Star Alliance- like Lufthansa. I can't believe someone made a comment about the food being bad- I hope that isn't some sort of famine related "joke.' I can assure you that the safety record is good, as is the food. The main reason you will find many Ethiopians flying ET is the very generous baggage allowance. If anyone ever reads this, please do ignore many of the very ill informed comments from people who've clearly never flown ET.

I think you are reading into this WAY too much.

I hope so....my Anglo- Ethiopian partner has previously been asked if food is served on Ethiopian Airlines, so it's not coming from nowhere!
And going back a very long time ago now, (1990s) was also offered food by very well meaning but also very clueless people!

Lufthansa seem to be misplacing everyone’s luggage at the moment so good luck with that.

Love Ethiopian. Always chose them vs KLM flying back from africa if i could as nicer, better lounge and more importantly better luggage allowance. Only airline that automatically put you in a hotel if layover was more than a few hours. Food was pretty decent too as i recall.

It can't be any worse than EasyJet.

ThreeLittleDots · 18/07/2022 11:14

I would rather fly Ethiopian than on some of the ancient BA fleet!

I fly to similar destinations and also fly from Manchester, and I always take the Manchester- European hub - onward on a European airline option. I have the most air miles with KLM and I really like Schipol so I try to choose that.
I have not done it post-COVID though so I'm not quite sure what the rules are re EU stopovers though.
