to be taken aback by a total stranger telling me off for not putting shoes on a 4 month old baby?

Okay! So I had lifted the wee fella out of his buggy and footmuff & he was on the "lying down" style trolley in Asda. He was wearing a winter jacket with hood on top of his day clothes, mittens and thick socks. Having chased his socks & mittens round the shop floor an effing squillion times on more than one occasion, I was waiting at the till when I was approached by a woman in her late 50's/early 60's who exclaimed that it was "a sin that boy's got no shoes on!".

I have to confess, I have no shoes for my 4 month old child - thought it was just another thing to pick up off the floor and best left till he was at least crawling.

Pumpkin - I know the lady didnt mean the baby needed shoes to walk.

I thought hands and feet weren't a good indicator of body temp anyway or I have got that all backward?

Anyway, if I can get my son to wear a slong sleeve t-shirt and a jacket, I call it a good day - another nakey one here. Him, not me. I don't want to scare people Grin

no Geek you're right, IME anyway. I can be wrapped up in a roll of loft insulation and my hands / feet will still feel like ice, Ive got very bad circulation though

My husband got told off in Spanish, I might add by a lady who told him off about DS1 not having any socks on in April when it was 25 degrees outside.

That to us is a lovely day but to this spanish lady it was cold!

Firstly, babies have more brown fat than us and its an excellent insulation.

Secondly, I'm a podiatrist and would not put shoes on a baby. When they start walking, then you put them in shoes.

Oh, and your meant to get them measured every 6 weeks until there 3 or so! pricey or what.

My son is one today and still has no shoes

I'm 55 and have no absolutely no interest in stranger's babies in the supermarket.
But as this lady was late 50s/ early 60's maybe my invitation to the 'nutty old ladies in the supermarket course' is in the post.
