To be cross with my au pair?

We have a Polish au pair, who gets my DD1 and DD2 ready for school while I get baby DD3 sorted out. It has been very cold here over the past couple of days and I asked her to make sure the DDs had their hats on. I had to go to the gym early today, so the au pair had to take the children to school. She has access to one of our cars in theory, but doesn't drive, so had to take them on the bus.

When I got back from the gym, the hats were still on the table in the hall, so she had obviously forgotten to put them on. AIBU to want to send her back to Poland?

YANBU.
Shoot her.

OddBoots · 11/10/2011 10:50

stuff the hats down the sleeves of their coats when not being worn, problem sorted.

MrsWentworth · 11/10/2011 10:50

Ok - that's me told

Shooting's too good for her! Thrash her, keep her hungry and on a leash in the back garden.

PandorasSocks · 11/10/2011 10:51

This has to be a wind-up, no?

Surely no one is that bloody awful in real life?

Just in case it's for real, YABVU and I feel sorry for your au pair... and your children.

pootlebug · 11/10/2011 10:52

"She has access to one of our cars in theory, but doesn't drive, so had to take them on the bus"

What is the point of this bit? If you wanted to employ an au pair who can drive, then you should have looked for an au pair who can drive. I'm intrigued by "had to" go to the gym early too.

If you believe your precious DDs will freeze without hats and can't live with the au pair forgetting then I'd suggest you send her back to Poland and take your own kids to school instead of going to the gym.

RedRubyBlue · 11/10/2011 10:52

Well, the world is going to hell in a handcart! Make her clean her room with a toothbrush the lazy, forgetful mare.

mumeeee · 11/10/2011 10:53

YABU. She forgot their hats. How old are your DDs? As they are going to school I'm sure they are old enough to be asked to try and remember their hats themselves. Also if they are anything like my DDs were they would probably take them off at school and not wear them at play time anyway. If you were that concerned you should have stayed home from the gym and taken them yourself.

Caffeinefiend · 11/10/2011 10:54

This has to be a joke...surely???

vanimal · 11/10/2011 10:55

My DDs always, always forget their hats, I also shove them down the arm of their coats too as soon as we get back indoors, so that I they don't forget them the next morning.

I also tie their gloves to their coats, like my mum did with me :)

Booooooyhoo · 11/10/2011 10:56

you had to go to the gym early did you? Hmm

FlamingFannyDrawers · 11/10/2011 10:57

I also don't see the relevance of mentioning she has access to car when she can't drive. Maybe to make you sound like a thoughtful employer but the 'silly Polish girl' can't drive.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 11/10/2011 10:58

Of course this is a wind up. Did make me Grin a little though.

pigletmania · 11/10/2011 10:59

Must be a wind up nobody surely is like that! Just for the record yabvvvvvu your poor au pair bet she can't do anything right in your book

worraliberty · 11/10/2011 10:59

It's the serious replies on threads like this that make me laugh more than the OP Grin

This is a lovely bridge, love what you've done with it. Does au pair sleep under here with you?

PierceDeere · 11/10/2011 11:01

You just can't get the staff these days, can you?

Lock her in a cupboard until she learns her place.

TheVermiciousKnid · 11/10/2011 11:02

For the sake of my sanity which is already pretty battered I am assuming this is a wind up.

Ariesgirl · 11/10/2011 11:03

This is clearly a wind up in the vein of "Shall I shoot my gardener who failed to sweep the leaves off the path today". Or "Shall I send my housekeeper to the Gulag because she put the wrong kind of milk in my tea?"

People like this can't exist, surely? Grin

worraliberty · 11/10/2011 11:04

The wrong kind of milk in your tea?

The very idea has made me so angry, what's wrong with these servants? Angry

What a load of all nonsense!
If this isn't a wind up Grin
The only possible solution is for you to be at your dc's side 24 hours a day so you can make sure you can act out all of your control freakaridge in person....
If you allow someone else to look after your dc's you have to let go somewhat.Hmm

Ariesgirl · 11/10/2011 11:06

BEGONE FOUL WENCH!!!!

Casserole · 11/10/2011 11:09

Don't think I can't see you there with your gulag, Pisces.

OP, this is terrible. This is exactly why our nation is going to the dogs. All these feral children running around completely supervised on public transport with slightly chilly ears. I strongly recommend you deport the wench immediately. Otherwise your kids will be on crack by Friday 2pm at the very very latest. There is no time to waste.
