I have hidden my favourite mug at the back of the cupboard so that MIL doesn't use it tomorrow when she comes up for a hard day providing us with free childcare.
In fairness, if she partciularly liked it, I'd be happy for her to use it, but she just grabs whatever comes to hand. So I wanted to make sure that the mugs that came to her hand weren't my favourite mug that needs to be waiting for me.

So am I:

a) not U
b) not U for the mug thing, but U to start a thread about it
c) U about the mug thing, but not U to start a thread
d) a bitch DIL from hell
?

If you offer him a box of chocolates he doesn't read the little leaflet, just grabs one and stuffs it in his mouth, then sayd "ugh it was OK, not that keen though" - usually those ones are MY FAVOURITES

OMG this has made me irrationally angry on your behalf and I don't even really eat chocolate Shock

Hmm Leaving the bastard would be too lenient. Stay and torture him repeatedly.

SjuperWereWolef · 11/10/2011 09:28

i have a fave seat that isnt the computer chair shock horror dd has her teddy bunny rabbit in it just now - she can play there but everybody knows that if im not at the computer that seat had better be free Grin

my family are well trained for the most part..

QuickLookBusy · 11/10/2011 09:35

My 'D'H does the chocolate box thing. The first time it happened I thought 'God can I really marry this man?'

His whole bloody family do itShock

It's all down to breeding init.

LadyEvilEyes · 11/10/2011 11:02

I also have my favourite seat and if I have visitors and they sit on it I silently seethe.
It's my perfect spot, on the corner of the sofa next to the fire beside the lamp and a plug for my laptop, with perfect access to the coffee table.
It is my spot, even the dog and cats seem to know not to sit there.

Thzumbiewitch · 11/10/2011 11:08

Samara, you are absolutely right, I misread it, sorry! Blush
It did make me laugh though so I'm not that sorry I misread it for myself, I thought it was really funny. Grin

effingwotnots · 11/10/2011 11:10

My mil brings her own cup from home as mine aren't good enough fir her ( it has to be china you see......)

lollilou · 11/10/2011 12:33

Not U at all I have a favourite coffee mug and have been known to pour boiling hot coffee out of a lesser mug into MY mug.

SamaraMorgan · 11/10/2011 12:49

That's OK Thzumbie.

I'm more than happy to admit that my mug phobia is at least as weird as your mug fetishes if not more so Grin

TunaTiebacks · 11/10/2011 13:16

I had a favourite mug as a teenager, and then one day I couldn't find it. I asked, but noone owned up and it wasn't seen again til about 4 years later when I found it up the shed, dad had used it to mix some sort of decorating paste in. I have never had another favourite mug, I think the incident left me with attachment issues.

valiumredhead · 11/10/2011 13:22

People have special mugs? Confused Grin

Thzumbiewitch · 11/10/2011 13:23

Why is it that some blokes think it's ok to use a food/drink container to mix up toxic and destructive stuff? Someone recently posted that her ex used her red Le Creuset casserole dish to mix paint in - I mean seriously! Why???
If DH ever tries that shit he'll be finding his best shirt used as a duster.

MrsChemist · 11/10/2011 13:31

YANBU

I no longer have a favourite mug Sad
Too many people have used a favourite mug, and broken it. I don't want to face the heartache of losing another mug, so emotionally shutdown from mugs.

Jacksmania · 11/10/2011 14:53

Awww... I thought it probably was really petty of me BlushSad but she just annoys me so much with her equally petty ways... I didn't think pettiness was contagious... I wonder if there's a vaccine? :o

If there is, it's probably called "bethebiggerpersonol" or something :o

HappyAsIAm · 11/10/2011 15:14

I understand OP.

I used to have 'mug issues'. I had 2 or 3 favourites, and I was very protective over them. If DH made a visitor a cuppa in one of my favourite mugs, I would secretly assess whetehr or not they were sufficiently worthy :)

So now I have no fewer than 12 mugs that I absolutely love. None of them are identical, but they are all of the same colourway and I am so excessibvely pleased with them

They're Dunoon Mugs from the temptation gifts website, if anyone is remotely interested (no, I guessed not) in the Lomond shape - starburst, the earts one, the spots one etc.

ZonkedOut · 12/10/2011 08:41

I looked up those mugs - I like them. But I prefer my mugs to have vertical sides so you can carry 2 in one hand without spilling. It also helps if they're all the same size and shape for that.

HappyAsIAm · 12/10/2011 09:17

Zonked, maybe you could try the Derwent shape? Thats a straight up and down shaped mug, but the patterns aren't very pretty.

I do 100% recommend the Lomond though. I particularly like the stripey ones and the wellies ones, but there is a special place in my heart for the stars, spots and hearts ones too. I can carry two in one hand as long as I don't fill them too much (or if I do, Dh has to come and collect his own from the kitchen).

corlan · 12/10/2011 09:26

I keep this mug for people that annoy me. Grin

It's very childish but it always makes me smile.

ZonkedOut · 13/10/2011 05:54

Happy, I agree about the designs of the Derwent shape, and I prefer shorter, fatter mugs anyway. Straight sides also fit better in the cupboard. I know it's a bit picky, but hey.

tulippa · 13/10/2011 06:34

I bought my MIL her own special mug for use in occasions like these. She still uses my cereal bowl to give DD her tea in though. Grr. Grin

JoandMax · 13/10/2011 06:47

I have one of the teapot/cup ones and it is only to be used by me! It is used on special occasions when there are no DCs around trying to touch it and it instantly relaxes me.

It stays in a seperate cupboard to all the other mugs and cups to avoid any danger of it being used by anyone else

LikeABlackFlameCandleBNQ · 13/10/2011 07:01

Hmm I must belong on another forum. When my DM or MIL come round (admittedly not v.often, we are not visty people) I always make their brew in my favourite mug, and I use my second favourite.

The tea tastes the best in my mug, so maybe I do it cause then I think they'l get a superior brew and thus wonder at my beverage capabilities

I do get a bit jealous, even though I bring it all on myself

lovecat · 13/10/2011 07:29

We had a lodger for a while a few years back - she ALWAYS not only used my fave mug, but sat in MY seat on the sofa. She got in from work before I did, so she was always bloody there!

I felt that it would been intensely petty to say 'erm, those are MINE', so I just sat and seethed, and much as I got on with her otherwise, I was glad when she went!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 13/10/2011 07:39

I have several mugs which are mine, for use at different times of the day.
I also have my own mug at my parents that no-one uses but me under pain of death.

DH does the chocolate thing. Grabs one and stuffs it in, and then says 'what have I just eaten?' Angry

skrumle · 13/10/2011 09:04

happyasiam my favourite mug is a dunoon one - bought years ago when i was in dunoon! it's a glencoe shape, i likes a big mug...
