...to be annoyed at Permit Parking

My street and those in the vicinity are becoming Permit Holder's Only between 8am and 6pm. It makes sense, as we are in the midst of 2 primary schools and a leisure centre, so the streets can get busy. Urban area, also, so no driveways.

My AIBU relates to the fact that I have to pay for my permit? I could maybe understand if I had more than one car, paying for the extra permit. I also totally understand paying the nominal fee for a book of visitors Day Passes. But I feel quite begrudging about paying £15 for the privelge of parking in a three-street radius of my own home for a year. Especially considering the cost of road tax.

Grrrr....AIBU?

£15 feels like a bargain to me. Round here they start at £50 and get higher the bigger the engine.

First permit here is free, second one is fifty pounds. Parking is very much at a premium, being a popular area for tourists - these permits are a godsend.

We can buy books of visitor's permits; they work out at 80p for a 12 hour permit, or up to £9.80 for a week - still very good value, I think.

As long as your area is well monitored by wardens, you may find that the permit scheme might ease your parking problems in the long run, especially if your local council parking office ensure that only entitled residents are able to apply for permits.

£15 pounds a year?? I had to reread that to make sure that wasn't £15 a month you were complaining about.

£225 a year per car is what I pay in Brum. Do I win?

I wouldn't be able to park at all though if we didn't have a permit scheme. And as the scheme costs money to run i accept we must pay even if the council do profit from it. We DO live in a busy area as does the OP. I accept there is a weaker case in less busy areas.

It is annoying, but £15 is really cheap. When we lived closer to the city centre, we were paying nearly £150 and that was about 8 years ago. I hate to think what it is now.

From what everyone is saying, I suppose I should be grateful its not more Smile and my indignation at having to pay is nowhere near the rage my dad felt today (lives in the same street) after he was given a ticket when the scheme doesnt even start til next Monday. Though the roads are painted, the signs are all covered up!

We've been desperate to get permit parking in our street for years. It's finally going through but because the streets are narrow it needs special permission from HMG. It's taking days of everyone's time to prepare the application and then get it through all the hoops so we are happy to pay for that through the permits when they arrive.

And we got to choose the hours and days it applies, but they said there was no pointing asking for it to apply overnight as traffic wardens don't work then Confused
