I booked a room for our family last night (yes it was a saver rate thingumy) but I took out their cancellation insurance.
17hrs later and I tried to cancel it, but it looks like I have just thrown away £50 Shock
I phoned the hotel in question and she said, 'you cancelled within 2 days, you should get you money back. Call Customer Services.'
I ran to get a pen to take the number but the line was dead when I got back.

Called Customer Services, they said 'yeah, no problem. Fill out the insurance form and post it back'
The insurance forms asks for death or serious illness as my reasons or GTF.

OMG!
Am I jiggered!?
Have I just spent the money I set aside for my DS xmas pressie on an empty room? SadSad

Saver rate was £48 for 2 nights.
Flexi rate was £85
There wasn't really a contest there Sad

Building up my courage to try to call again.
How do you not get stroppy without resorting to begging, as I did yesterday Blush

Gaaaah! 15 minutes (at 10p a minute [anrgy]!!) on hold to Customer services.
Why do I feel I am being conned big time!?
I very much doubt that at 1050 on a wednesday morning that they have so many incoming calls that I have to wait more than 15 minutes to speak to someone.
Big fat stinking Con.
Big fat stinking thieves!!!!!!!

Did you actually read the policy document before agreeing to buy it?

In the specific exclusions it says:

"Cover is not provided if:

You do not want to travel;"

Therefore it is hardly a con when it won't cover you........
I really feel for you but accusing travelodoge of conning you when in actual fact you booked non refundable room and then an insurance policy which acts like standard travel insurance (ie you are covered in case of illness, breakdown or a myriad of other unforeseen events) isn't actually very reasonable of you at all.

However - the insurance policy has a 14 day cooling off period so you might be able to get that refunded!

I meant the customer service number was a big fat con.
But I know you are right re the room, doesn't stop me feeling angry at it all though. grr
