to expect a stirfry to have rice/noodles with it?

Apologies for possibly the most petty AIBU ever, but DP and I just had a huge row about this!

When I do a stirfry, it is some combination of meat and/or veg with noodles or rice and a sauce. DP thinks that stirfried meat and/or veg in a sauce is a perfectly acceptable meal Hmm

AIBU or is he nuts?

I think a meal does need carbs (unless you're on a low carb diet).

thick noodles or rice, stir fry isnt complete without them!

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 10/10/2011 20:01

Sometimes we only have meat and veg in a stirfry...or cooked meat and salad...it's because we sometimes feel too full after carbs.

AuntiePickleBottom · 10/10/2011 20:02

it needs noodles

could go for a chinese now ( thinks i should hide threads about food)

KatAndKit · 10/10/2011 20:16

I now have a serious craving for chinese food. And no way of acquiring any this evening. YABU for putting this into my brain.

CardyMow · 10/10/2011 21:47

Definately needs noodles. Your DH is wrong.

lesley33 · 10/10/2011 22:08

veg only - never done a stirfry with rice or noodles

thisisyesterday · 10/10/2011 22:11

so you just have veg and nothing else for dinner?

SixtyFootDoll · 10/10/2011 22:13

Just meat and veg here. Noodles as well would be too filling for me.

You are correct. Your dh is wrong.

tarponsspringsiloveyou · 10/10/2011 22:18

benen sprouts yes, why not x

LittleMissFlustered · 10/10/2011 22:22

If I've had carbs at other points in the day I don't necessarily need them in a stir fry.

However I still want some nice thick noodles, bean sprouts, carrot, spring onion and sauce right now!

tarponsspringsiloveyou · 10/10/2011 22:23

been sprout should say.

dozyrosie · 10/10/2011 22:30

mmm noodles are essential.

skybluepearl · 10/10/2011 22:56

noodles or rice yes

takingbackmonday · 10/10/2011 22:59

No rice or noodles. Carbs are the enemy.

EttiKetti · 10/10/2011 23:04

We just have veg, meat, sauce....never noodles or rice!

thisisyesterday · 10/10/2011 23:07

but why????

do all you no noodle/rice eat your other meals without carbs too?

LadyThumb · 10/10/2011 23:21

I have noodles with mine. My son doesn't. Both of us think we are right!

takingbackmonday · 10/10/2011 23:28

I do yes but then I can eat my own weight in fat or protein but look at a carb and I jump a size. I haven't eaten bread, pizza, pasta or white rice this year.

It's a whole meal if you pad it out with lots of veg, beansprouts etc, noodles/rice makes a v healthy meal not so healthy

MrsStephenFry · 11/10/2011 00:28

Obviously chow mein needs noodles, since it is noodles. Chow=fried, mein=noodles.

Stir fry doesn't need carbs, but if you want them, have them.
