I have measured my bag - fine (just)

DH bag is a clear 2cm over but he won't listen!!

I know he will create a fuss if they charge him £40 but he's adamant

The scales are all looked after by the airport, nothing to do with the airline. Often different airlines will use the same scales.

If you are flying from stansted Ryanair have a corner of the airport and they have a desk that forms a barrier to the gates that they use. Most people get stopped and checked for weight and size. My case is also about 2 cm too wide, but I make sure it isn't full so can squish it if necessary. Walking with purpose helps a lot I find.

TastyMuffins · 10/10/2011 20:07

I had to rearrange my bag slightly so I could squish it in on one of my flights, not sure they were that fussed about rechecking it either. They don't check them on all flights, make sure you don't look as if you are carrying a really heavy bag.

this was on watchdog not long ago, they went through several different air lines and there was up roar that the bag measuring thingys were different sizes throughout the air port

Dorris83 · 10/10/2011 20:37

I agree with the posters who warned about the weight, they got me both ways on a recent trip , extra £80 in total, I did not need that!
I truly hate Ryanair, would happily never fly with them again were it not that they do have a pretty convincing monopoly on sOme destinations.
So op YANBU!

A quick update - we're just back, ended up buying 2 cheap bags (just in case)
Everything was weighed and measured but i'm smug happy to report that they couldn't find anything to charge us extra for. And we (3) sat together on both journeys without paying for speedy boarding.

Well done vinegarpuss and you should have T-shirts saying FLEW RYANAIR AND NOT SHAFTED.

stoatie · 22/10/2011 21:58

recently flew ryanair in party of 10, no problems with hand luggage, and we got seats together without speedy boarding. Both flights took off on time and landed early.

tuffie · 22/10/2011 22:10

We have flown with Ryanair for the past 6 years. Never had a problem. Never had a delayed flight. They go out of their way to state their terms and conditions. They are very good value and you get what you pay for. If you want to take more luggage or better service, you can always opt for a more expensive airline.

PastGrace · 22/10/2011 22:11

When I went to Italy we were a group of 9. One person had paid for speedy boarding. She took longer than us to check in, and got onto the plane ten whole people before us...

Vinegar well done! Also thanks for the heads up - I bought one of those debenhams cases! Excited to use it next week [saddo emoticon]
