to think that the label on the new dosage Calpol is very subtle?

Just bought a new bottle of sugar free Calpol as DS2 is teething and couldn't remember the dosage for a 1 year old. I looked on the label and noticed that all the dosages have changed.

I know that you are supposed to check the label each time but they could have made it a bit more obvious. It is a tiny yellow corner at the top that says "New Dosage".

The amount of paracetamol in each 5mg is the same as the old Calpol that I have.

AIBU to think they could have made it stand out a bit more?

I've always dosed ds1 by weight as he's very small for his age. Every time I weigh him every 2-3 months or so, I do a quick check on the dosage for both paracetemol and ibuprofen and stick it on a note in my phone. But the syringe graded by weight is a truly fantastic idea!

sparkle, where do you check the recommended dosage by weight though? It doesn't say on the paracetamol or ibuprofen does it (assuming that you're in the UK)?

You can google ('paracetemol dose by weight in children') it or ask your pharmacist to check in their under the counter book. I asked when looking at the boxes of Boots own brand vs Nurofen once - the strength was the same but the Nurofen box was twice the dose by age as the Boots box so I asked the lady to check for me. For info paracetemol is 15mg per kilogram bodyweight per dose, and ibuprofen 10mg per kilo per dose, in standard otc suspension strengths. Paracetemol is 120mg per 5ml, and ibuprofen is 100mg per 5ml. There's a calculator here for ibuprofen dosing, and I'll try and dig one up for paracetmol.

Paracetemol one here

15mg/kg

so: if your child weighs 19kg = 19 X 15 = 285mg

Then you have to work out how much of the medicene that is in mls.

what you want = 285
------ (divided by)
what you got = 120 X what it is in = 5ml

= 11.85mls of paracetamol
(if the strength is 120mg per 5mls)
