To take little girl and myself away for Christmas

I am raising my DGD (I always call her 'little girl' on here because she is far more to me than DGD, tho she is not my DD. I hope that makes sense)!
Last Christmas little girl (then 5) and I waited all day for her Mother (my DD) to turn up, well she didnt. It was awful, and I do not want to put little girl thru that again.
She hardly see's her Mother anyway (she is a heroin addict), in fact she did not even turn up for her B'day recently.
I would love to just take her away somewhere sunny for Christmes.
I just know her Mother will make a fuss about it tho.
Well, AIBU?

Many thanks PamBeesly and LtAllHallowEve.
The temperature sound good, obv. would have to go long haul to get sunbathing weather, and that is not what we are going for anyway!

The two hotels sound great, I will be looking into them both, plus the Four Seasons. Sounds as tho you are fans of Cyprus, must admit I have always gone for Greece in the past, so Cyprus sounds a nice change.
Yes LG loves kids clubs, in fact the more kids the merrier!

Yes, I know what you are saying eurochick, but she will keep asking if her Mum is coming to join us.
Still, I have learnt my lesson and I would just say no.

She might start to worry that her Mum will come while she's away, even without prompting.

I wonder if an openly stated plan will be better: "We're going to Cyprus for such dates, then we'll have our second Christmas on such else date with Mum if she can make it."

Yes thats a good idea Tianc. Thanks.

I am definately a fan Mary, we lived there for almost 2 years and I would go back tomorrow if I could. Cost of living is just too expensive at the moment Sad. International Schooling for DD would wipe out our wages and then some.

The whole time we were there we marvelled at how family friendly everything was. DD was treated like a princess wherever we went and made so many friends.

I loved the outdoor living - even if it was too bloody hot in the summer! Tnroughout the winter we used to go to AI hotels just for the weekend because it was cheaper in many cases than going out for meals.

We've stayed at quite a few hotels in both Paphos and Limassol, so if you do decide on Cyprus give me a shout and I may be able to give you the lowdown Grin

(And I agree with Tianc ^^ if you are open, but breezy with LG it mmay be easier for you both)
