to think that I'll never be able to eat grilled cheese without laughing again?

A friend has been making random allusions and jokes about "grilled cheese" for ages, that I never quite understood, so I asked, and was sent this link.

it's not just the actual article but the comments completely cracked me up. I am sat here still giggling to myself, with my toddler laughing along, but slightly bewildered.

I don't think I'll ever be able to eat grilled cheese again without thinking about that.. AIBU?

Can I recommend the Oxo Tower thread in MN Classics for those who have enjoyed the girlled cheese article?

Hilarious!!! The comments were better than the letter & reply!!

Am not a fan of a grilled cheese sandwich myself!!

ineedabodytransplant · 06/10/2011 16:48

as long as the grill isn't part of a smeg cooker everything is ok...Grin

Ivy, you will very enjoy it!

Thanks for the GCS link, it's brilliant, I keep popping back and reading more comments, I don't want to bite off more than I can chew at any one time, iyswim?

IvySedaiballs · 06/10/2011 19:19

Sometimes a big bite can really get stuck in your throat..

Ivy I find a bottle brush works wonders for those hard-to-reach nooks and crannies Grin

toomuchteaching · 06/10/2011 19:27

"Spritzing cologne" above the grilled cheese sandwich area. Yuk.

Mandy2003 · 06/10/2011 19:44

I am surprised that I didn't see a fear of choking appear as one of the suggestions for the reasons behind a phobia of grilled cheese sandwiches?

Nor do the correspondents seem to be particularly keen on suggesting desensitization therapy - trying a little bit at a time, maybe licking it to get an idea of the taste...

(Slaps own wrist at this point!)

IvySedaiballs · 06/10/2011 20:45

choking IS a serious risk.

do you like your GCS with or without crusts? :o

OP posts:
WilsonFrickett · 06/10/2011 21:06

Not fussed either way on crusts, but I can't bear those random seeds that get stuck in between your teeth...

iceandsliceplease · 06/10/2011 21:42

DP hates grilled cheese sandwiches Sad. I love making them, but he just doesn't enjoy them. I feel like I've failed at as a good cocok. It took 11 years of me slaving away before he would admit the truth.

Especially as an ex once asked me to make him a grilled cheese sandwich when I'd never made one for someone before. I was too shy then, but I know he would really have appreciated it. Other diners have always enjoyed what I've dished up.

iceandsliceplease · 06/10/2011 21:43

ah, striking out only works on words, not letters.

I feel like I've failed at as a good cock cook.

devonshiredumpling · 06/10/2011 21:56

got to clean my laptop up as just spat coffee over it laughing

IvySedaiballs · 06/10/2011 22:18

ice, at least I guess he was trying to spare your feelings.
better than comparing your cooking skills to other restaurants he has frequented.. Hmm

iceandsliceplease · 06/10/2011 22:44

Very true Ivy, although if he enjoyed the dish at another restaurant, I would have liked their recipe. I think he has an over sensitive palate to certain types of cheese. He'll scoff most things on a cheeseboard, it's just the grilled cheese aspect he's not so keen on.

OrangeGloss · 07/10/2011 01:36

It's the comments that made me laugh, am trying not to imagine what a BLT is Grin

IvySedaiballs · 07/10/2011 18:09

yes, the comments are the best bit.

BLT.. well, we all like a bit of bacon. not sure about lettuce and tomatoes, though. that sort of lettuce is always limp, too.

Wetting myself laughing . . .

IvySedaiballs · 07/10/2011 20:37

is that a euphemism?... :o

Andrewofgg · 07/10/2011 20:42

Ivy you've got a dirtier mind than I have and that is putting it very, very high! :o

AttillaTheMum · 07/10/2011 20:46

she doesnt feel like she has the confidence in making good cheese sandwiches. If that's the case, give her positive reinforcements and some gentle instructions. Keep trying and maybe she'll come around and learn to enjoy cooking them for you. Grin

Andrewofgg · 07/10/2011 20:50

There are some forums - I will not name names because I am not about to out myself - where it is my recognised function to lower the tone.

But here I am redundant!

aftereight · 07/10/2011 21:50

"are you cooking her enough open faced club sandwiches?" Grin Grin
