I sit at a desk from 9.30 to 3.00 without a lunch break (my choice).there are 3 other people in the building we all have separate offices. Two of the people are out most of the time and the 3rd person pops out every 1.5 -2 hours for a ciggie (smoking place right outside my window Grrrrr)and cvoffee breals too.I don't smoke or drink hot drinks . I have been trying to lose weight and struggle to fit in much exercise (4 kids hubby away a lot in the week).
I am wondering whether IWBU to take 3 x 5 minute exercise breaks (in the privacy of my office) and what could I do in 5 mins -sit ups? Squat thrusts?press ups?

Just go for a brisk walk. Fresh air's good for you.

YANBU, jolly good idea.

Short breaks during the day are a good idea, you'll work better for it, and doing exercise instead of supping coffee or smoking is perfectly reasonable.

I'd have thought situps/pressups would be ideal if you've got the space and privacy.

(Of course you really need to do some longer sessions of aerobic activity too)

Sitting at a desk continuously for 5 and a half hours isnt good for you anyway, so you should really get up and move around at least once an hour.

A quick jog round the block when everyone else is making coffee isn't unreasonable.

But if you're also having coffee, you are BU.

I smoke, drink coffee and need the loo... I used to do all three at one break (not all at once of course) and the woman who complained the loudest was the one who nattered the longest over the kettle... fortunately after conspiring with the boss to show her (in graph form) exactly who was the biggest time waster (all doen lightheartedly) she quit moaning.

Go for a walk around the block. While at your desk, try and be more active.

GrimmaTheNome · 06/10/2011 11:34

If the OP is limited to 3x5 mins, I'm not sure its long enough for walking - esp if it takes time to get coat and out of building. If 1x15 possible, then a walk would be good if the weather is OK (dont want to be sat at desk for rest of day soaked). Jogging in the middle of the working day not v practical if you get hot and sweaty.

Try sitting on an exercise ball at your desk. It will cause a few comments initially but you will be amazed how much you move and strengthen your core. Anyone objects, say your physio has suggested it. I started a trend in my office Grin

Thanks ladies
I've just been for a brisk 5 min walk and feel a lot better mentally certainly, and even if not very much exercise it must be better than nothing!
