AIBU to think parent and child parking....

Should be for parents of young children only.

For the second week running, every parent and child space at my local supermarket has been taken and I have been pipped to the post for one space by someone with school aged children. It really gets my goat. I have one 7mth child and really need the extra width to navigate the car seat and baby. This afternoon I had to park miles away at a spot that was clear from other cars and carry the carseat through carpark traffic all the way in. Another lady with a child in a buggy had to do the same.

The supermarkets policy is children up to the age of 12 but I can't see why someone with a 7 and 10 year old needs that extra space. I think that its particularly rude given that they were also, presumably, were once struggling with a small child too.

are you sure you had to park miles away?

It should be turned into diabled parking and any mother/child parking moved to the farthest point of the car park. There's a big campaign about it... Grin

You can easily answer if yabu or not by searching for parent and child spaces on here. You will find 100s of threads.

BatsUpMeNightie · 03/10/2011 22:38

Wow - never seen this one before!

Sirzy · 03/10/2011 22:39

But why get a 7 months car seat out of the car? I have never understood that!

HelloSweetie · 03/10/2011 22:39

i actually don't give a shit.

RockStockIsMovingBackToEngland · 03/10/2011 22:39

This will go well.

faverolles · 03/10/2011 22:39

Here, have this hard hat. I think you might need it :o
P&C parking threads always end in a ruck, mark my words.

BatsUpMeNightie · 03/10/2011 22:39

HelloSweetie

i actually don't give a shit

That was what I wanted to say but it came out wrong!

GypsyMoth · 03/10/2011 22:40

7 and 10 year olds may fling the doors open and scratch your car?

The world doesn't revolve around 'babies'

freybean · 03/10/2011 22:41

oh and op - my dd is the same age, still never had a problem parking on the otherside of the carpark

RIZZ0 · 03/10/2011 22:45

Jesus wept!!!!!!

slavetofilofax · 03/10/2011 22:45

Another Mother who feels she is entitled to a p&c parking space just because she gave birth.

Jesus wept.

OddBoots · 03/10/2011 22:45

There could be a hundred reasons why that family needed the space and they got there first. I can understand your frustration but it might be better directed in asking the supermarket to allocate more spaces.

wigglesrock · 03/10/2011 22:46

Why are you taking the carseat? I have a 7 month old, she can now sit in the front of the trolley but before that she sat in the bucket seat. Where do you put the carseat and the shopping in the trolley?. My big local supermarket has all the parent and child spaces well away from the shop entrance anyway, its great no-one ever uses them, there's tonnes of space.

youarekidding · 03/10/2011 22:46

YABU, and that's from someone who uses one with a 7yo DS if they're free. They are a convenience - nothing more nothing less.

In actual fact the cunt man who decided to drive into a small carpark after me the other day and drive forwards into the space I was preparing to reverse into (and he knew it as there was a queue and that space had just been vacated as we waited) is fucking beyond U. Angry

That pisses me off more.

GypsyMoth · 03/10/2011 22:47

Popped to the ost by parents with school aged children????

I suggest you get your arse out the door to tesco when the school aged children are in school then!!!!!

worraliberty · 03/10/2011 22:49

I like to ride my horse to the supermarket

It shits sporadically on the roads and pavements throughout the journey

Then I park it sideways across two P&C spaces...with its back legs in the disabled bay.

Flowerista · 03/10/2011 22:50

Can MNHQ give us a hard hat emoticon?

Flowerista · 03/10/2011 22:50

Worra does it not sit in the trolley while you go round eating grapes?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 03/10/2011 22:54

hahaha.. Worra.. Grin

manicinsomniac · 03/10/2011 22:55

I've always thought of them as spaces for those with buggies tbh. So I'm not sure you're bring unreasonable. I wouldn't use one now my youngest is 4.

But, having said that, before having kids I was less considerate. I used to park in P&C bays as an 18 year old adult on my own because I did my shopping on the way home from drama rehearsals at 10pm. My reasoning was that if there were children in the shop then they shouldn't be!

worraliberty · 03/10/2011 22:57

No it won't sit in the trolley and I'm scared it might have a tantrum so I let it run wild round Waitrose.

I sometimes get it involved in choosing things from the shelves but to be honest since the sneaky bastards started stocking Polos at the till, it's a bit of a stressful experience.

BatsUpMeNightie · 03/10/2011 22:58

Funniest post of the day worra -

JustRedbin · 03/10/2011 23:00

As a parent with a child I always park in these spaces. DD (32) doesn't always accompany me though.
