... To expect OH to not 'pop in for a quick pint' on the way home from work 3 days before baby is due???

My DH likes his pint on the way home a few times a week. I asked him at the weekend not to this week as I don't want beer fumes being a part of the labour experience! Lo and behold tonight in he comes and so do the beer smells. DC 1 was a few days early so am hoping DC 2 doesn't decide to make an early entry tonight... If it does I think I may be uttering some abuse his way!!!

YANBU

As you asked and he agreed YANBU. Here's hoping you sleep a lot tonight and the 'smells' won't be present when DC2 decides to begin the labour experience. Underline to DH how important this is to you and good luck. x

MotherOfSuburbia · 03/10/2011 22:28

Honestly I think it's ok if it really is just 1 drink and he's going to be ok to drive you to the hospital. As long as he's in contact all the time in case anything kicks off.

My DH was in a job interview when my labour with DC4 started. I texted him to let him know but thought it would take a while. He went off for a drink with a friend after the interview and it was only when he mentioned to his friend that the baby was on the way that he was booted out of the pub by his friend and told to go home...

GypsyMoth · 03/10/2011 22:30

Yabu!! It's one drink of watered down beer!

PoppadumPreach · 03/10/2011 22:31

YANBU

You accept him doing so under normal circumstances, but these days are not "normal circumstances"!

He's being childish.

manicbmc · 03/10/2011 22:32

Sounds like a selfish bugger to me. So if you suddenly had to go to hospital would he be in a fit state?

If he can't manage to curb his pub visits when you're in the last stages of pregnancy I'd be bloody livid.

lenny101 · 03/10/2011 22:32

"...it's ok if it really is just 1 drink and he's going to be ok to drive you to the hospital."

This didn't occur to me and I assumed you'd be at home OP. I was just listening to you say you didn't want to smell the alcohol during labour, whether he was legal to drive or not.

Beamur · 03/10/2011 22:33

There again, he might be thinking there will be fewer opportunities for a quick pint on the way home in the near future. As long as it's just one and he is still fit to drive, I'd maybe cut him a little slack.

Tigresswoods · 03/10/2011 22:36

Lol I was in labour (1st time) & texted DH who was on the golf course to tell him. 2 hours later when he picked up the text I told him to have a drink then make his way home.

I think I was delusional though. That or I'm just very laid back.

He would be fit to drive but if I can abstain for 9 months surely a few days isn't too much to ask. My sense of smell has really heightened in the last few weeks and the smell of beer turns my stomach.

Well, just for that reason alone, he should knock it on the head for a short time.

golemmings · 03/10/2011 22:57

YANBU but I confess to having sent DH out to choir this evening (which is held in a pub) to get some r&r before DC2 arrives. DC2 is now 11 days late... I told him if there was any news I'd text him but if I rang him he needed to drop everything and get himself home to take me to hospital!

He's now in bed and I'm still on mumsnet...

manicinsomniac · 03/10/2011 22:58

As long as it is a quick drink then YABU.

AuntiePickleBottom · 03/10/2011 22:59

yanbu, he agreed not to go to the pub in the lead up of the birth.

i know it's 'only the 1' but if he can't go without that one do you think he has alchol problems

piprabbit · 03/10/2011 23:12

You are being a tiny bit unreasonable - but understandably so.

If you are arguing about something as minor as this is before the baby arrives, then it is going to be hellish for you both when the baby is in full screaming mode and you are sleep-deprived and hormonal.

Try and find a way to talk to him sensibly - while holding on to the moral high ground. After all you did ask and he did agree.

Dexifehatz · 03/10/2011 23:32

Is he still going to 'pop off for a quick pint' when the baby's here? Knock that habit on the head or I shall be reading your posts in the Relationships area.

havinhoops1974 · 03/10/2011 23:38

I think (but In understand) YABU aslong as he is fit to drive,
plus if u go inot labour you wont care what anyone smells like.

NoobyNoob · 04/10/2011 07:33

Sorry, but YABU.

Christ, one/two drinks. I doubt he'll be able to go out anytime soon once the baby has been born will he?

And if you don't like the beer smell, tell him to change his clothes and brush his teeth!
