to be unable to cope with my splinter? HELP!

I have a mahoosive splinter in my foot...right in the soft part of the sole ....it was sticking out and I pulled it and half is still in there and I CANT: GET IT!!!! I am badly squeamish and DH tried but I almost kicked him in the head.

So he says I am alone....I had a look and it's deep and under the skin....please give me some way of getting it without diggig about with pins and scalpels....I may juts pass out!

Try stroking it from the deepest part upwards, that might encourage it to move up towards the surface. Maybe.

Otherwise, I think it's needle and tweezers time.

Soak your foot in water as hot as you can bear it for at least 15 mins. Then put a plaster on with germolene or similar on it and leave it overnight. It should draw out. If not and its as huge as you say, you'll be best seeing the nurse. They give a small amount of local before digging about getting it out

Firstly get a grip! It's splinter not a plank of wood!

Soak your foot in really hot water and do the plaster thing as already suggested.

Magnesium Sulphate, will draw it out, if you put it on it then stick a plaster over it.

Got one out of my daughters foot the other week & out of my sons habd today.

A tip i heard (probably not any good for a foot though) is put a bit bonjela or similar on it and it will numb the area a bit and makes it easier to get out.

Make it up with your DH and get him to suck it out?
I do love a good splinter for removal.

Doc here - i would ice it for about 15 mins to numb it first. Did this to myself when i had a great big intramuscular injection. Ask DH or someone you trust to extract it for you. Make sure he has a good light so can see what he's doing .Use a fine pair of eyebrow tweezers and push upward from the deepest bit of the splinter. Once the end emerges so you can see it put a thumb nail under the bottom to stop it slipping back and use the tweezers to grasp firmly and pull. HTH.

It's still in there. I am soaking it again. I have a huge fear of needles and blood....I mean I am properly squeamish...I faint atinjections etc or even at th sight of blood.

Poor you! If the fear is that bad, I'd go with the magnesium sulphate paste and covering it up as suggested above. Maybe the MN medical team could advise better but I think your body will force it out after a few days anyway.

You up to date on tetanus jabs?

Only leave it be if you are sure you're covered re tetanus jabs.

If you try to draw it out/ferret about for it yourself, then golden rules are

1. Any diabetes/circulation problems? If so STOP and go to the doc's/A&E INSTEAD.
2. Any redness spreading around it? Feel unwell/fluey? Again if so ->A&E (may need antibugs if infected.)
3. Sterilise your tweezers/needle in hot water (20mins) or equivalent unless you have sterile one in your first aid kit (the only people I know who do have them are medical types though ) - resterilise after (it won't last but at least will get any blood off!)
4. Antiseptic eg germolene/savlon on after and cover it up.
5. keep an eye as per number 2 until it's all well healed.

Antiseptic cream will draw it out. It's why you're not supposed to use it on new tattoos because it will draw the ink out.
