My daughter was given the pink box (5585) for her 4th birthday and loved it. You can build a house, car, dog and horse etc with it. This set is the small lego rather than Duplo. It's a shame there aren't more Lego products aimed at girls.

DD is older now, but at that age she had a mixed set of blocks plus a couple of good sized bases at that age & used them loads. Hers was gathered 2nd hand from ebay (cheapskates that we are) but I think something like this would set any small girl up for a very long time.

DD just got the large plane for her 5th birthday which she loves.

rushofbloodtothefeet · 02/10/2011 21:16

But girls can play with any Lego, they don't need 'pink' branded stuff FFS!

My DD who is 4 loves any of the Lego City stuff. She also likes to build houses and boats out of any random stuff. We're thinking about getting her one of the house sets for Xmas, like this or this.

She also loves to collect the mini-figures, they are very handy for small 'rewards' for good behaviour etc. She keeps them in a special box and trades them with her cousins.

Lego are now doing spongebob sets.

gethelp · 02/10/2011 21:25

My dd's still make Christmas themed items in December, trees, presents, Xmas puddings, and a big Father Christmas one year. Great fun and uses general lego/duplo. We made lots of penguins once and put them on the windowsill.

Lego is overrated, Duplo on the other hand, I would recommend the zoo or the train, the pieces do attach to Lego and you don't have the squashed together tighter than is ever possible issue.

also, they hurt less when you stand on them by accident.

trixymalixy · 03/10/2011 00:34

The favourite in our house is the duplo circus, it's so lovely.

Yes girls can play with any lego but lego belville is especially for girls. You can buy it from amazon.co.uk.

Inertia · 03/10/2011 17:31

DD still plays with the duplo polar zoo, and also the basic lego with plenty of roof tiles, windows, etc. The house kits are quite good. Camper van was a big hit ( with DH too ! )

CaptainNancy · 03/10/2011 17:31

Oh please do NOT get freaking belville shit!

Lego comes in primary colours, you can build anything you like- it is completely gender neutral, and should remain that way.

cottonreels · 03/10/2011 17:32

Duplo house and duplo zoo

SardineQueen · 03/10/2011 17:40

The one that mine (4 and 2) seem to like best is the polar zoo, The animals always go down well, and they like shooting them down the slide thingy.

SardineQueen · 03/10/2011 17:43

They have that at my mum's along with a set which had some horses (my mum seems to think animals are the right things to get and so far she seems to be right!).

At home we have an aeroplane, one of the shop sets, one with a fire engine and a few other bits.

It all gets played with Smile

belgo · 03/10/2011 17:47

My 6 and 7 year old girls still love duplo, it's fantastic. They have a real mixture, nearly all second hand - you get the best stuff that way - interesting mixtures of sets. I have just bought a second hand duplo 'theatre', including a duplo witch and ghost.

SardineQueen · 03/10/2011 17:55

That's a good idea belgo. Where do you get it?
