Was I being unreasonable to laugh at dh for this?

In the car, earlier on, ds1 (18) was describing a crash he had on his bike, at a skate park, when he broke his wrist - and was telling us how many times the word 'fuck' had gone through his mind before he hit the floor. Dh became a tad po-faced about the use of the word, so I may have used it a few times ("Boys - don't say fuck, because dad doesn't like you using the word fuck and thinks it is fucking rude for you to keep on fucking saying the word fuck").

Dh started to tell us, in somewhat pompous tones, how, when he was a lad, out and about in the car with his parents, he wouldn't have dreamt of using That Word in front of them - and suddenly a car nearly pulled out in front of us on the roundabout, almost hitting us, and forcing dh to swerve. Dh shouted, "FUCKWIT", - and the rest of us fell about in helpless fits of laughter at the irony. It took him a while to see the funny side.

bats I agree! 'Fuck' is about as shocking as 'bloody' used to be. Cunt is the new shock word but even that isn't anywhere near as shocking as it used to be.

MissTapestry · 02/10/2011 14:38

Fucking brilliant...YANBU!

Lol at thread. I have been known to say "fuck" a fair few times in front of ds (15).

ScarahStratton · 02/10/2011 15:08

Why is 'fuckwit' disablist? Hmm

I like sweary words, they can be so inventive. And I've learnt so much on Mumsnet, I salute each and every sweary one of you. I've always sworn, I've just brought the DDs up to be aware that swear words are an adult thing and are not for children to say.

DD1 (18) doesn't really swear
DD2 (14) is quite remarkably inventive, without using actual swear words.

Thumbwitch · 02/10/2011 15:20

Scarah, it isn't. I suspect Kayano might have got it mixed up with that other word, which is.

BeaOnSea · 02/10/2011 15:21

YANBU

Oh, I do love it when somebody comes crashing off their high horse Grin

ChaoticAngelofSamhain · 02/10/2011 15:38

YANBU

I have to admit I wouldn't swear in front of my mum and stepfather but they don't swear. I do pull my kids up on it and try not to swear in front of them for that reason.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/10/2011 15:44

I wouldn't even dare think That Word in front of my mum - she'd know what I was thinking and give me The Look.

Ooh, YABNU for laughing - v funny!

But I think you were all being a bit U for using the word with your children and letting them use it in front of you Shock, even if they are adults!

PeneloPeePitstop · 02/10/2011 15:50

It's hardly the other word.... you know the first four letters of Dr Who's blue box thingy.

It's really sad that someone has to mock stuff that SN parents have fought over. It may not mean anything to you that they put up with that crap on here, but to actively mock them?

Not nice.

PeneloPeePitstop · 02/10/2011 15:51

Oh, and the op was hilarious.

shuffleballchange · 02/10/2011 15:51

I LOVE THIS yanbu

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/10/2011 15:59

PeneloPee - I honestly didn't know that fuckwit was a word that was causing hurt and upset for SN parents, and I apologise for any offence caused.

I did realise when I posted the OP that people might well be a bit Hmm about us using sweary words in front of the dses, and letting them use them. If I am honest, it's a battle I gave up on, and at least they do know not to use sweary words in front of other adults, which is something.

I will go and put myself in the naughty corner now. Blush

During the 70's my Mum used to shout "fuck me rigid" when she was very annoyed!

I had no idea(at the time) how rude that was Grin

I didn't swear because although I heard it a fair bit ,I knew it was just for adults.

YANBU ...:)

MorelliOrRanger · 02/10/2011 16:15

Haha - brilliant, and YABU to swear such a lot in from of your children (however old), but YANBU to have laughed like a loon at your DH. Grin

MorelliOrRanger · 02/10/2011 16:16
  • front - not from Blush
valiumredhead · 02/10/2011 16:17

Can someone please explain why the word fuckwit would cause offence? Confused

AFAIR it was used in the Bridget Jones books - that's where I first heard it anyway.

valiumredhead · 02/10/2011 16:17

LOl @ fuck me rigid Grin Shock

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/10/2011 16:22

I have realised I could have told this story without making myself look like such a terrible mother. Ah well - that boat has well and truly sailed, hasn't it. BlushSad

ScarahStratton · 02/10/2011 16:26

Can we have a list of non-offensive sweary words. As in, ones that don't offend in an 'ist' sort of way.

Please :(

cheesesarnie · 02/10/2011 16:27

Kayano · 02/10/2011 16:30

I never said it was disablist but I have seen it described as such on here, so thought I would give a heads up Smile

usualsuspect · 02/10/2011 16:31
