to think it's not really suitable to be topless in school?

When I picked up dc4 from nursery this afternoon one of the dads also picking up was almost naked save for a pair of short shorts and flip flops. His hanging beer gut gave some extra finesse to his outfit.

I admit that I judged.

Now I accept it was meltingly hot this afternoon, but that really isn't comfort enough considering I had to squeeze past him after helping ds get his bag from his peg.

WIBU to have been Shock Hmm at this dad? am I being a prude?

YANBU - its all about manners.

I also have issues (oh I know i have a lot of issues!!!) with bikini clad women sitting in cafes or topless youths walking down a main street. Total lack of class, I dont want to see their hairy pits!

But decorum and dignity is fast fading these days

YANBU. It's a vile habit and not liking it has nothing to do with prudishness or Britishness.

HeadfirstForHocusPocus · 30/09/2011 18:14

It's not the naked flesh that bothered me we swim regularly and see lots more on show there, more the close proximity of sweaty torso [yuk]

Plus, yes, the children do have to follow a dress code. It's not an overly strict one but still...it just doesn't seem the approprite place (oh dear i am sounding very british!)

Spooks, what's it to do with being British? I am not British and still believe it's not polite to take your shirt of in public. Nothing to do with being British or installing unhealthy believes at all. I just think one should be dressed appropriately in public and shirtless is not it.

AngryFeet · 30/09/2011 18:15

Last week I was walking behind a woman in the playground on my way to pick up DCs. She was a rather large lady and had on leggings and a short top. Unfortunately the leggings were completely see through on the bum area and she was wearing a thong. It was horrific.

YANBU OP. Noone needs to see that sort of shit, beer gut or not.

cheesesarnie · 30/09/2011 18:18

spooks, its got nothing to do with where your from.
does anyone really want to see lumpy sweating skin.eurgh not me.

johnny depp however is very welcome.

HeadfirstForHocusPocus · 30/09/2011 18:24

I wouldn't even want to see Johnny Depp naked in public...I would want him to be in full pirate dress Grin

Same here HeadFirst, and then he could get his shirt off once we're home Wink

welliesandpyjamas · 30/09/2011 18:41

Ha ha! You'd hate it at my son's school, OP! Shirt off makes it all the better to show off the tattoos Grin

Seriously though, no, it isn't nice, really, but again, it could be worse. I certainly wouldn't come home and post in AIBU about it I'd just try and conceal my cats bum mouth and look the other way Also, if it was a problem to appear semi naked in front of the kids, maybe the teachers or head should have pulled him up on it? If our head were to appear in the playground at pick up time, I reckon the topless dads would quickly cover up (she's suitably scary).

cheesesarnie · 30/09/2011 18:43

ooh yes,pirate dress.....hmmmmmm

WilsonFrickett · 30/09/2011 18:44

I really hoped this was a rogue thread in answer to the one ages ago where the OP's small child had pulled her top down and the OP had marched topless into the school, dropped off the older DC and all the way out again with her norks hanging out. But it was not to be Sad

madmomma · 30/09/2011 18:47

I find topless men in shops, streets etc very visually irritating, but beyond having a major cat's bum all summer I guess there's nothing to be done. At least the Dads don't do the school run in pajamas and uggs.

troisgarcons · 30/09/2011 18:51

"cries horrendously"

Mother came to pick up her sick child. large woman in a sun dress, wrap over bodice, minus a bra. "bleaches my eyes out" it wasn't pretty
