Doc thinks I have thyroid problem so blood test in the morning. Have my youngest with me, I'm not squeamish or 'owt and don't mind needles. Would it be ok to take her do you think? If not, will have to give it a miss.

My DS always came with me, no other option at the time.
When he has had to have them (allergies) he has been OK (ish!). I think knowing what's involved helped him know what to expect even if he didn't like the actual process himself iyswim?

ive taken mine for bloods all the time as i have thyroid problem - no bother! My dd age 3 comes when i have a smear and waits behind the curtain! no big deal !

My 3 yr old came with me a couple of weeks ago. No problem at all. In fact it was good as he distracted me [wimp emoticon]

I take mine age 2&4 every time I donate blood, they also come if I need blood tests. YANBU

Yanbu I took my dd when I had one, got her to watch.
I didn't want it to become a scary thing and her have a fear of needles (fear of the unknown)

Sirzy · 27/09/2011 20:50

I wouldn't take DS with me just because I am a PITA to get blood out of and I hate getting it done so I am more likely to scare him more!! If I was 'normal' though I would without a doubt!

biddysmama · 27/09/2011 20:53

my 2.5 year old was fascinated by all antenatal tests especially the bloods

DigOfTheStump · 27/09/2011 20:55

No problem at all, I have had mine with me at all sorts, including one sitting on my knee while I got root canal treatment.

I would find it more odd if you didn't want to take her lol.

LiegeAndLief · 27/09/2011 22:10

Ds sat on my knee for every fortnightly blood test I had when pg with dd. He was about 2.5-3 and was quite interested but not scared by it at all. It did help that I am very easy to get blood out of I guess, but he would probably have been fine regardless.

However, I very much wish I hadn't had to take him into the cubicle to do my midstream urine samples!

maighdlin · 27/09/2011 22:36

DD has been having regular blood test from she was 2 weeks and is now 2 she is a pro at them and makes my 37 year old sister ashamed as she cries with panic at them as she never had them when she was young.

PootlePosyPerkin · 27/09/2011 22:40

BT - yes, no problem if you're not afraid of needles. Smear test - I'd draw the line there, DS1 can clearly remember certain things/events from when he was 2 years old. Wouldn't want him remembering that to be honest! Blush

exoticfruits · 27/09/2011 22:43

I really wouldn't worry-as long as you are quite calm they will be fine.
Last time I went to give blood there were 2 small DCs there and they were fine-very interested.

HoHoLaughingMonster · 27/09/2011 22:47

DD has seen me give myself loads of injections as I've been having IVF treatment and have had to inject myself every day for 7 weeks. She was fascinated

We've had lots of games of doctors and patients since then using her toy doctors kit, usually starring her as the doctor and me as the patient...
