To bid at the last minute on ebay?

I don't see the point of putting bids in on ebay, so I wait until the last 10 seconds then bid what I'm prepared to pay for the item.

Is this a bad crafty thing to do and AIBU?

It's starting to bug me tbh, I don't mind a late flurry but the sniper thing is very irritating.

Sniping is good as a buyer, because you dont end up going higher than you intended, but you do run the risk of being out-sniped.

As a seller (which I am).. it is so boring to see all the watchers on the item, and no bids for 6 days though!

I bid my max when I find an item and then don't look at it around ending time so I don't get into a bidding war just because.

I wouldn't remember to bid at the last minute.

I do this, because I've had so many "second chance offers" that I suspect all sellers of bidding against me on their own things to bump the price up.

I know that's unfair to most sellers, but it happens all the time, I get outbid and then get the message offering the second chance or saying "actually, I have two absolutely identical items, would you like the second one?" It's made me suspicious and at least the risk of being out-sniped is fairer and less likely to be the seller or their friend.

i do what bohica does, I see somethign bid what i think its worth then leave it alone if i get a winner email great if not then i dont think about it anymore. When i bid last minute i tend to end up bidding more than i should have and then wish i hadnt.

But sniping is going through a website that does it for you, isn't it? That's what itches me a bit, plus what will happen when we all do that as default.

Hanging round at the kill is the normal Ebay way and is a different thing imo.

DH does EBay here and he has sniping software of some sort. Bit unsporting, but since he's electronics mad most of the stuff he's after is no doubly all geeks doing the same.

I think if you bid your maximum too early, you're at risk of the price being pushed up by the seller. I never bid til the dnd if I can help it, still with the same price but that way there's no chance to be pushed up unfairly.

I hate it when someone does it to me though! So if it's something I wanted, YABU But generally YANBU!

I'm both a buyer and seller. When my items sit there for days with several watchers and finally go for the start price with seconds to go I call my customers bottom feeding scum, however when I want to buy something I wait until the last 15 seconds and consider myself a skilful purchaser. There is no privileged frame of reference.
