To think raw chicken should always have it's own chopping board??

That's how I've always done it- separates for raw meat and veg. DH on the other-hand will cut chicken on the same board he goes on to chop onion on etc. He says that the veg is going to be cooked just as much as the chicken so it won't matter. I can't get past this point with a sensible argument, which begs the question, AIBU?

It's not the traditional dettol, it's the antibacterial kitchen surface spray that dettol make. Not the stinky orange disinfectant.

I don't use a chopping board for meat.
I cut it with scissors (e.g. chicken chunks for stir fry) straight into the pan.
No frantic salmonella-feared scrubbing of boards needed.

I buy beef/pork/lamb already in chunks for casseroles, mince meat needs no chopping, so actually its only chicken I ever really have to cut up when raw.

I have really good quality knives and use them for neary all my kitchen prep, and cannot imagine cutting up chicken, especially chicken thighs on the bone, with scissors. If I cut it up with scissors straight into the pan some of the chicken would be overcooked before I had finished cutting it up. Also, my scissors aren't dishwasher proof and I wouldn't want to risk campylobacter and salmonella getting into areas I can't wash properly.

I have never heard of anyone using scissors to cut up chicken before.

I only do it for the little chicken breast fillets, not for meat with skin and bone still on. Mostly use the scissors for bacon in fact. They go straight in the dishwasher at high heat with the scissor open. Larger bits, or trickier cutting obviously I use a knife!

Have you never seen poultry shears bunbaker?

Bunbaker · 26/09/2011 19:57

I have but don't feel the need for some. In fact I used to have some and gave them away. I prefer to use a knife.

i'd rather it was the 'stinky orange stuff'

I remember years ago watching some 'nanny cam' thing where the nanny never cleaned just wafted dettol anto-bac stuff everywhere

just clean- why spray crap everywhere?

I love the sound of this scissors for chicken business but how do you make sure they're cleaned properly? Is there not gunk lurking between the blades?
