To wonder what's so special about pigeons?

walking through town with just ds2. Had one of those bittersweet moments when you realise just how lovely it is to hold your child's hand, and just how quickly he is growing up. So prompted by this I said unguardedly:

"J, I do love you, very much!"

"not as much",came the reply "as I love pigeons."

He's a handsome devil shitmoo!

BTW what are you shitmoo these days?

I would love a raven - I guess you didn't walk into Pets R us and buy him? Did he just arrive one day? Do you let him out at all?

My mum had one used to visit her when she was working as a secretary once - it used to fly in through the window and sit on her desk.

I'm back to Sarah now. :)

No, he was savaged by the dogs belonging to livery yard owners. I managed to get them off him, but his parents had been chased off and didn't come back. His wing was broken and he was bashed and bleeding, so I took him to the vets.

He won't ever fly again, he has too much muscle and nerve damage in his wing. But he has a big, secure pen and house to sleep in at night, and the run of the garden during the day.

No cat dares come in Mortimer's garden, he's ever so slightly territorial!

Brilliant! Glad you managed to save him.

If I managed to find a raven that needed rescuing DH couldn't possibly object to my owning a bird..... I'd be doing the bird a favour, cage or no cage. Yes?

Reminds me of a book I bought my gorgeous little nephew for christmas called "I love you this much" (or summat like that).

It would get bored in a cage, they are incredibly intelligent.

But if it can't be rehabilitated back into the wild, and if you've got enough space and time, then yes, they are amazing birds. All of the crow family are, my XFIL had a pet jackdaw as a boy.

If this thread has taught us anything, then, it's that there's nothing that special about pigeons.

After all, many dead things are delicious with chips and peas.
