So DD got me up at 4am this morning so I could drive her to the tube for 5am as she was going into London with her friend (1st time alone!) to
try to get wristbands for a book signing by the One Direction pop group.

WHSmith in Shepherds Bush (London) was opening at 7am this morning so screaming girls 'fans' could purchase the book and get a wristband which would allow them to get their book signed by the band at 2pm this afternoon.

Now after they had left and I got home from the train station, I checked online only to see a tweet from WHSmith saying that they had given out all the wristbands for the book signing by midnight last night! Most people getting up early to travel into town would have been in bed by then so like us, would not have seen that message and what the hell were they doing giving them out 7 hours early anyway?

DD wanted to be sure and waited in the queue for over two hours before someone bothered to come out and tell them the wristbands were all gone.

AIBU to think WHSmith were completely unfair and disappointed a lot of young girls by doing this. Not to mention the money wasted in travel costs. It seems that because it would have been mostly teenage girls queueing, they do not matter that much so they don't give a shit about they have travelled.

YANBU. Always go to a Waterstone's signing.

blonderedhead · 24/09/2011 16:34

I like the description "the One Direction pop group" OP

YADNBU.

Have heard from someone who did get a wristband that people were queuing from 7 a.m. YESTERDAY and WHSmith therefore started handing out wristbands at 11 p.m. to prevent them sleeping there. I would complain to Westfield management - their security should have handled this better!

YANBU. Find out which company manages 'the One Direction pop group' & email them to very politely complain. I bet they'll send you some signed crappy momentos & DD will think you're the best mum ever.

Bless them, can Wand Erection write or is it just pictures? Wink

I think Twitter usually gets a quick response with things like this.

YANBU that is so shit!! i would have been heartbroken if that had happened to me at that age.

moomaa · 24/09/2011 21:40

It is rubbish but if there were more people than wristbands by 11pm and they were all going to stay there all night then she wouldn't have got one anyway would she?

If I was in charge and there were that many people I think I might have given them out before the morning hordes turned up to join the queue too......

i love the way even mad screaming girl fans are being manipulated now by the media Grin

The thing I don't get about this is that Westfield start shutting down parts of the mall at around 10 pm when the shops close, and the whole place is closed overnight - it's not like the Harrods sale, WHS in right inside the mall and there is literally nowhere anywhere it where you could sleep out for the night even if you wanted to. They should never have allowed people to gather there the day before the wristbands were meant to be given out. Unless they were always planning to hand them out when they did...?
