Basically been bleeding (menstrally?) for 5 months and I've lost weight and I'm extremly tired, been to the doctors, the doctor I saw put through an URGENT refferal to hospital for an ultrasound as I keep getting sever pain in right ovary and she seemed very concerned and said appointment would be in a few days at most.

Rang the hospital today as I haven't heard anything and the soonest they can fit me in is october 17th, so I phoned doctor to get transferred to another hospital (I was asked which one I preferred in the first place) and she is on holiday until the end of next week so cant do it.

WIBU to go to the hospital complaining of the pain to get a scan done?
I'm very concerned now and I'm worrying myself sick over it?

go to A&E adn say that you cannot cope with the stress any more (and so it is an emergancy). I had your symptoms - was fine but was scanned to check it was fine. If you cannot get treatment any other way then go to A&E.

It is not a gynae emergency or accident. It is a long standing on-going problem which IS being investigated by your GP (although the process is frustratingly slow)

A+E is NOT the place.

shutthehellup, I've said a few times that I can only speak from my own experience, and that I'm aware services may differ elsewhere. I didn't want the OP to get the impression that all A&E departments would have the facilities to help her, as some others were implying.

OP said she had 'severe pain' in her ovary. If the pain is severe then she should go to A & E. I also had severe pain in my ovary - went to A & E and was scanned and in surgery within hours.

No-one can diagnose over the web whether medically qualified or not. I did not for a moment think my condition required emergency surgery. I had been in pain for weeks but too busy to see a GP until it was so painful I had no choice. If the pain gets very severe it will be a moot point as OP will KNOW she has to go to A & E asap.

It is not an accident, it is not an emergency.

If everyone that was in pain and on a too long waiting list for a scan or a test, then A&E would have to close down.

There are so many people waiting for things to be done on the NHS at the moment, what makes you think you are more imortant than everyone else on the list?

You wait as long as it takes for the free treatment, and if it gets worse, go back to the GP. Or, you pay to have it done privately.

GP should at least be able to prescribe pain relief while you're waiting.
