IABU to think that the swimming teacher should hand the kids over to the parents rather than just point them towards the showers. The children are 3 btw. Genuinely not sure if IABU.

Depends on the physical set up, doesn't it? Our 3yos are obvious to see and can't wonder off unseen between from pool to shower area, so no problem keeping track of them.

Three does seem young to be running around unsupervised. Are the parents nearby though, do they follow the kids to the shower area?

I would have thought that if they were 3 yrs you were there and would follow them! Why would you not notice the class had finished?

Surely you have a watch and can be ready for the end.

I have never had a swimming teacher hand over my child. Surely you are there waiting for them as the lesson ends.

Right, the training pool has no seats poolside, we all sit in little cafe that overlooks the training pool, when the lession is at it's end we have to walk thru the changing rooms and have to catch them as they come outthe showers. So we can't follow them and at some point have to take our eyes off them to walk thru changing rooms.
The reason I ask the question is today I had 2 of them in the lesson, one of them had a nosebleed about 5minutes before lesson ended, I had to go with that child and a first aider as he was upset. Meanwhile the lesson ended and the other child had walked thru the showers and having not been caught by me kept on wandering and apparently nearly made it out of the changing room before another woman stopped him and bought him back. (I was frantically searching for him at this point)
I am not sure if I think the swimming teacher should ensure they get handed over to an adult is in reaction to today or just because it would be quite sensible.

YABU. You got to the showers before the lesson ends and pick up your child from there.

So at the moment it's a big no that swimming teachers should hand them over. Fair enough.
Btw I don't think child snatchers or paedophiles are going to get them, the child just got scared and cold.

YANBU In your situation, OP. Are 3yos really expected to shower adequately by themselves?
But you need to make sure the teacher understand that you have TWO in the same lesson to attend to and keep track of, that's rather unusual I would have thought.

Did the swimming teacher know that you were busy with the injured child? If so I think it that situation the instructor should have made sure the child was taken directly to you as it was a situation out of the ordinary.

Normally I dont think there is anything wrong with how they do it. Having witnessed children leaving the pool from lessons at our local pool they use the same method it would seem.

Well one of them wasn't mine, he is the son of a friend who has a 5 week old and not sleeping so I said I would take him to swimming. The instructor was aware that I was in charge of them both. He saw me walk away with the first aider and bleeding child.
When I had realised he had sent them to the showers and I was trying to work out what to do with bleeding child to go find AWOL child a kind lady who was passing said she would sit with bleeding child.
I also had a 3rd child still in the cafe with all the bags, luckily she is only 10 months and was strapped into the pushchair so couldn't go anywhere!
After AWOL child had turned up I deposited him with bleeding child and kind lady so I could go get DC3 and bags! The kind lady should be on Gransnet.

Our swimming teachers used to hand the kids over to their parents. If the parents were late, their children would go back with the teacher to sit at the side of the pool till the parents turned up. For 3 year olds I don't think anything else is appropriate.
