To think that rights/wrongs aside, a council needing to make £300m cuts should focus it's funds somewhere other than evicting gypsies?

I know there are massive fors and againsts in the Dale Farm evictions, and I don't want to start a big travellers debate, but in this time of austerity measures, and the fact that Essex council needs to cut £300m in 3 years, is evicting the site now, when it's a case that has been going on for 10 years really the best way to spend the little cash they have? Its been reported it's going to cost the council £18m to return the site - which used to be a scrapyard so hardly a place of outstanding beauty - back to greenbelt, how many carers, libraries etc will be lost to fund that? Just a thought.......

Only racists in your opinion Math. You are in a minority of 1 or 2 thinking that questioning council tax payment is being racist.

This might be a bit of a shock to you, but sometimes you are actually WRONG. Like right now.

Bubbles, that is disgusting and wrong, and should not have happened.

Math, I await you telling me off for being racist towards Len Grierley.

bubbles4 · 23/09/2011 18:13

actually I think it might have been his father who built it without pp,have only skimmed through the planning inspectors report, will read it later when the kids have been fedGrin

SarahStratton · 23/09/2011 18:14

Math. Read again. I DID NOT say they didn't pay, I ASKED for clarification on a statement. Dress it up however you like, asking someone to clarify a statement with further facts is NOT BEING A FUCKING RACIST.

And I bloody object to being called one. Especially on an internet forum where you have no idea what my racial background is.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2011 18:15

SarahStratton, I may be in a minority, but if your reasoning is that if I am in a minority then I must be wrong, then your reasoning is wrong.

'Bubbles, that is disgusting and wrong, and should not have happened.'
You seem to think a lot of things and people are wrong, but apparently your only basis for judgement is whether the law or an individual poster agrees with your pov or not..

SarahStratton · 23/09/2011 18:16

Thanks bubbles, I'd be interested to know. Would you PM me later please, I'm taking a break from this thread before I seriously lose my temper.

I don't know and don't care what your racial background is and you do not know mine for that matter. Anyone can be a racist. It's equal opportunity ugliness.

LineRunner · 23/09/2011 18:17

I have seen the Telegraph online today link the issues. It seems to be questioning why Basilson Council is still paying housing benefit for abodes that have not been occupied for some time (apparently), a question presumably predicated on the fact that HB is paid to a claimant not a landlord.

How the Telegraph 'knows' this, I do not know. Claimants could be not on their pitches or in their abodes because of the impending eviction and still be eligible, presumably.

Seriously, I don't know.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2011 18:18

'I ASKED for clarification on a statement.'

Puhleeeeease.

SansaLannister · 23/09/2011 18:18

Well, judge's speech today learns more towards how eviction should take place, not if.

onagar · 23/09/2011 18:49

mathanxiety you find racism even if you have to make it up yourself don't you. You have been so eager to find it you have been tripping over your own wild claims. Read your own posts if you can bear the embarrassment.

SarahStratton · 23/09/2011 18:52

Don't tell me what I do and don't mean Math. I did actually mean for clarification and I was not hinting. It is both rude and insulting to insist that you, and only you, can be correct or have an opinion.

And you are devaluing and degrading the term racism by bandying it about every time someone disagrees with you.

Oh, I reported my post telling you to fuck off, thought I'd save you the bother. I still think you need to get your head out of your arse though, and learn a little humility.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2011 19:04

I wasn't going to bother reporting. Would you like to report the one about the poo on my nose too while you're at it? If not it's not something I couldn't be bothered to do either. Maybe it could remain in situ as a warning to anyone else who dares to express an opinion that is different from yours.

Onagar, nice to see you are back and have managed to untie at least one hand from the various knots you had tied yourself up in with your contradictory 'reasoning', dodgy pronouncements, wild claims about sulking, progress, the law, etc.

SarahStratton · 23/09/2011 19:07

No, that one can stand. I quite like the descriptive qualities of it.

Let's get back to your little problem with anyone disagreeing with you, shall we. Is this something that spills over into real life, or have you realised that, there at least, it's not a good idea to whine racism at every opinion that isn't yours.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2011 19:17

No, when it comes to racism on this thread I am right. Nobody likes to think they are a racist of course. Hence the poo on my nose.

aliceliddell · 23/09/2011 19:22

Have we already had 'devalues real racism' yet?

aliceliddell · 23/09/2011 19:23

Ooh, yes, we have - 18:26.

SarahStratton · 23/09/2011 19:29

IF I was being racist I would be railing against the legal part of the site. I'm not.
IF I was being racist I wouldn't care that a neighbour has been granted retrospective PP. I do care and I do think it's wrong.
IF I were being racist I would.. Oh I really don't care anymore. Say what you like and I'll just sit here and watch the pair of you alienate and annoy a shedload of posters who'd have happily debated with you.

bubbles4 · 23/09/2011 19:33

SarahStrattonalink to the planning inspectors report len gridley
I dont think i,m going to get time to read it tonight thought you might like a look at it.

LadyBeagleEyes · 23/09/2011 19:34

How fucking dare you call the race card as soon as anyone disagrees with you math.
I've stated in my posts that knowledge of travelers is limited, and my experience of them Ihave had no problems.
I live in the Highlands, they come and go but I know of many people born and brought up here who will never afford to build a home as they can't get planning permission.
If a huge number of travellers managed to get it illegally, I think I'd feel the same as the residents living beside Dale Farm.
Anyway, I'm not a racist but I am a pompousist which you are.

SarahStratton · 23/09/2011 20:01

Thanks bubbles, that is so wrong. He should have been made to tear it down, and it makes a mockery of his objections.

alemci · 23/09/2011 21:13

also are all the travellers Irish or are some British. some of my relatives were Irish. This cry of racism is just stupid. It is something that people do to shut others up if they do not like their opinion. You would think it was the worse crime in the world.

It is a bit like the McCarthy trials in the 1950's. Everyone was a communist if they had a slightly different viewpoint.

well said Mary. I think what you state reflects my stance on this matter.

CoteDAzur · 23/09/2011 21:59

How are travellers a race?

Me and friends have been living on boats for a few generations so now we are another species Hmm
