It sounds really snidey and stupid.

'Methinks a night out at the pub tonight' etc. Boak. Keep seeing it on FB and it makes me cringe.

So, AIBU?

Methinks you are about to have a whole thread full of methinks Grin

Mitmoo · 18/09/2011 13:31

Snidey no, stupid, maybe not really though. My most hated word are c&&t and t&&t though teh t&&t words arew widely used on here. I find it really crude.

WoofToYouTooLady · 18/09/2011 13:33

YABU, non?

SardineQueen · 18/09/2011 13:33

There's loads of ones like this that get on my nerves.

DH comes out with some really awful things sometimes. Like "medicments" instead of medicine. WHY? He has no answer. I want to thump him every time.

His dad would def say methinks.

CaptainKirksNipples · 18/09/2011 13:36

Agree mitmoo, much prefer to see people write cunt and twat. Hate all those &@*%# symbols to hide swearing. That is what you meant wasn't it?!

WoofToYouTooLady · 18/09/2011 13:36

arf at finding t@@t cruder than twat

ArmageddonOuttahere · 18/09/2011 13:37

It makes me think of Paul Daniels.

picnicbasketcase · 18/09/2011 13:40

I probably am being unreasonable.

The person who keeps using it is irritating me a lot at the moment, so really instead of ranting and offending people with my crude language I should just hide them on FB or just go on it a bit less often.

I still don't like the word though.

I hate methinks too, it sounds poncey. The only person who uses it and I don't think 'twat' is Norwegian mate because obviously English isn't his first language, so he's not to know.

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 18/09/2011 13:42

Its a bit annoying but could be worse YABABU

Mitmoo · 18/09/2011 13:42

Gissa thats MN going Shakespearian. Grin

raffle · 18/09/2011 13:43

I am getting really annoyed by those people who use the words "100 percent" instead of just saying "yes". I also cringe at the word"banter".

SuePurblybilt · 18/09/2011 13:44

It's not what I understand as snidey. It's affected and probably a good indicator of twattishness though, agreed.
though I use tis and twas and prolly and praps cos I am idle

But then the whole idea of FB baffles me .

iklboo · 18/09/2011 13:44

I'd rather see 'methinks' and 'tis 'twas than 'hun' and a load of barely legible textspeak. But I'm old (and my phone tried to autocorrect 'textspeak' to 're Taiwan' Confused).

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 18/09/2011 13:45

I do like tis though and use it quite a bit in rl. Not so keen on twas though, possibley due to its similarity to twat.

picnicbasketcase · 18/09/2011 13:45

OMG, you're 100% right there hun.

OP posts:
Happygomummy · 18/09/2011 13:47

It is an awful, pathetic expression. People use it when they think they have made an original and insightful comment, but is actually an inane and pitifully dull one.

They sound v v stupid.

YANBU

Methinks you're overthinking this, OP.

Tis quite possible that you're BU.

'twas ever thus.... Personages who hitherto spoke like cunts now just sound like twats, albeit poncey ones, ergo YABU.

HTH

RedHotPokers · 18/09/2011 13:52

I hate 'thanking you' instead of thank you.

SuePurblybilt · 18/09/2011 13:53

ooo yes, thanking you. And 'mine host' in a pub

And always using 'myself' when they mean 'me/I/my'

Nagoo · 18/09/2011 14:04

'thanking you' is what people say round here...

'Mine host?' I can't even put that into context.

I sneakily like tw@ though :)

usualsuspect · 18/09/2011 14:08

Twat is a great word

and while we are on the subject will posters stop saying 'makes my teeth itch' and 'no is a complete sentence'

thanking you

nenevomito · 18/09/2011 14:09

Considering how many ways people have found to act like twats on facebook, methinks is so far down the league of twattishness that its the sunday conference league of twattishness.

YABU.
