AIBU to think kids on the floor at festivals is dangerous?

I was at a well known Festival at the w/end and these parents had 2 small kids on a blanket in the middle of the crowd to watch a big band. All around people were pushing and shoving to get further forward, I just thought it looked dangerous and had to move away just in case something happened. I've just been on another forum where a poster thought this was fine. Is it?

I once met a couple in the mosh pit at a Guns n Roses stadium gig, with two DCs aged about 4 and I kid you not a proper wicker picnic hamper with china plates and linen napkins.... some people think everyone is civilised and gives a flying fuck will take care of small children at all times.

YANBU, my parents used to bring me to festivals when I was too young as well. It's loud and scary and watching drunken adults get in to fights and fall over is not going to make them feel safe.

I would feel horrible if I were at a festival now and tripped and fell on a child! :(

YANBU - it sounds dangerous to me. Mind you I was at a festival years ago and an aquaintance turned up off his head on E's with his 2 children in tow, aged around 4 and 6 who were shivering with cold, had no coats and looked terrified. I was really horrified.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 16/09/2011 19:01

No, YANBU. They shouldn't be doing that and the stewards/managers for that tent should have asked them to move.

I'm guessing it was Bestival, at which there is plenty for small kids to do.

Yes it was Bestival not in a tent though outside at night for one of the main headliners.

YANBU - and i'm a seasoned festy goer, being taking my son since he was 2 and he's now six. We've always had a pushchair for him, lit up so it's visible at night. Always stayed away from heavy crowds. This year no buggy, he's just too big for it and so my festy nights have ended at about 10 when he finally gave in and asked to go to bed. DH and i negotiate ove any late night activites we want to do and take it in turns. We don't take him to Glastonbury precisely because there is too much we want to do.

I've seen the sort of thing you describe and had to walk away, find it too uncomfortable to stay near. People will just see a space in the crowd and try and head into it......

I wouldn't take my son to Bestival though, and i'm pretty liberal. It is just not the sort of atmosphere I want to expose him to at such a young age.
