I am ready to be told i am but feel there is no need to wash complete uniform after one days wear (unless stained)?

Mine have 3 blouses/tops. 2 cardigans, 2 pinafores/skirts and 5 pairs of socks and tights.

Unless they come home covered in yoghurt (which is daily for dd2) their uniform only gets washed on a Saturday.

glitterkitten · 16/09/2011 15:03

I remember being sat at assembly and picking out from the row of girls in front who had a clean shirt on from the top of their collars ( the fold) being grubby. Mind you the shirts were white so it showed up easy. I would never go more than two days in the same shirt for fear of what the girls behind might see!!

forehead · 16/09/2011 16:15

Underwear every day
Shirts every day
Jumpers one to two a week
ds's trousers every day
dds' pinafore twicw a week.

tallulah · 16/09/2011 16:25

If it's not dirty, don't wash it (don't see the problem).

DD has been at school for 2 hours a day and has had to have clean uniform every day because she comes home filthy. I think they send her down a coal mine while she's there Grin

WoTmania · 16/09/2011 16:29

YANBU.

TheEarlOfDoncaster1963 · 16/09/2011 16:33

Shirts go two days unless obviously dirty (DCs are in Y2 and Reception). Trousers/skirt/pinafore I try to get 2-3 days out of. Jumper/cardi at least 2 days wear, but DS does seem to spill a lot of food (and he's the Y2!) so sometimes have to wash it every day (but we have plenty of them bought 2nd hand so never HAVE to get stuff dry for next day).

Oblomov · 16/09/2011 16:34

What is the point of this thread OP ?
Has anyone/schoolmum 'friend' actually said you are ..... grubby, for not washing your childrens uniform every day ?

hayleysd · 16/09/2011 16:35

Yanbu if they manage to stay clean but my ds comes home filthy every day so he has a clean uniform every day

Ormirian · 16/09/2011 16:37

Trousers at weekends only unless they get grubby inbetween (i am talking about you ds2!)
Jumpers ditto (but they usually do get grubby inbetween Hmm).
Shirts every other day exceot for the older children in summer.

mrshess · 16/09/2011 16:44

No no one has said son is grubby, its just i ummed and ahhed whether to send son with a jumper with a bit of a stain on and wondered whether people think i was being lazy.
I do wash his full uniform every other day but it seemed excessive to wash a jumper he had worn once but had a bit of a stain on and it was friday

YANBU. Only wash when needed, never ever iron. This goes for all their clothes. Have 4 boys who play fooball though so this is a must.

PrincessTamTam · 16/09/2011 16:50

I have scrubbed off single marks before school on many occasions if jumper not dirty otherwise. My DSs seemed to have a problem with toothpaste dribble so this became a regular answer (had to use scourer on spot). Thankfully the big ones have now grown out of it and I don't let my youngest brush his teeth with his top on now.

gillybean2 · 16/09/2011 16:50

Shirts daily. Jumper and trouses once a week unless they had food or mud on (only had 2 of each for ds at primary.

Now he's at secondary and it's still short daily, trousers once a week, tie and blaser at half term.

rusmum · 16/09/2011 17:00

trousers 2 pairs in week, clean t shirt everyday, jumper all week. I sponge it down if any visible marks on it x

thecaptaincrocfamily · 16/09/2011 17:02

YADNBU Smile I only wash skirts/ trousers if they have been on more than 2 days. Jumpers we have 2 for the week. I only change shirts every day. Usually because dd throwsthemonthefloor has her own style of folding clothes Grin

PeneloPeePitstop · 16/09/2011 17:23

Undies are a daily change.
Shirts every other day
Trousers as long as we can get away with, ditto jumpers

Oblomov · 16/09/2011 17:27

Ahhhhhh. Now I'm with you Op. Actually, thats a slightly difffernet issue. The old . thursday night, notice tiny stain, do I ?
a) lay out new uniform
b) give it a quick scrub and hope no one really notices, as its not really thta bad.
c) say, sod it. Sentd them in, without even having botehred to scrub it, And make a point of feigning suprise, when you actually get to the playground, making sure you get it in, before anyone else has even had the chance to make a comment ( not that anyone probably would).

Is that the real scenario, then ? Wink

mrshess · 16/09/2011 17:30

Yes oblomov i ummed and ahhed and chose option c (wink)

LordOfTheFlies · 16/09/2011 17:30

bath every night or shower in the morning if too lazy to bath the night before

fresh socks and pants daily
fresh blouse/shirt dail
jumpers usually a week unless dirty (they take them off in school)
DD can keep her skirt a week -clean child
DS is lucky to get his trousers to last 3 days-manky child

BTW, when I went to DS yr 6 open day I nearly gagged at the smell of a load of 11 yo in a classroom (BO). I can say (thankfully) that DS hasn't got the BO hormone smell, bt I know it'll happen, and I'm prepared.(Already chase him with a Sure for men antiperspirant stick Grin )

Xenia · 16/09/2011 18:24

Done it every Friday for over 20 years and none o the children smell. Teenagers change shirts more often. Underwear every day.

RainboweBrite · 16/09/2011 18:37

Oblomov, I have to agree. I think the O.P. was looking for a bit of reassurance unnecessarily. Since I'm on here now anyway, I'm going to brag that my DS (who's almost 9) has got 7 days wear out of the same pair of school trousers. They shall, however, be going in the wash tomorrow.

inchoccyheaven · 16/09/2011 19:01

ds1 ( secondary) wears shirt for 2 days but clean trousers every day. He only has 1 jumper so has to take that off as soon as he is home.

ds2 ( primary) has clean shirt and trousers everyday and sometimes jumper.

It never occurred to me that they should wear them more than once before washing but that may have been because they were always dirty or sweaty anyway.

They also have clean pjs every night too, is this not normal as well ?

I on the other hand wear same pair of jeans all week and tops for a couple of days. Confused

DrCoconut · 16/09/2011 19:36

DS1 is 12 and his polo shirts and sweatshirts stink of sweaty teenager after one day. But when he was little his uniform was washed less frequently. PE kit when it's been wet weather is now legendary as well - ughhhh.

RainboweBrite · 17/09/2011 18:18

inchoccyheaven, clean pajamas every night? Twice a week at most in this house!

pigletmania · 17/09/2011 18:45

YANBU at all, my dd was wearing hers 3 days in a row, after the third it started to look a bit tired and a little grubby so off it went in the wash.
