Friends and money

I took my friend's dd with my dd to buy some ballet gear..

I read out my bank details from my card to my friend for her to transfer the £ for the clothes.

She transferred the money 3 weeks later. It's not in my account 5 working days later. I asked her about it and she read back the bank details to me and she's got the account number wrong.

She says there's nothing she can do and she can't afford to pay out again for the ballet clothes.

What do I do now? I don't suppose there is anything I can do really, is there?

Banks do reverse them. I have made this mistake before and got the money back.

If banks reversed them you wouldn't have so many scammers.

Banks MAY if you advise them within a certain time frame and it has to be very short, however more often than not they WON'T reverse.

If you transfer money to the wrong person accidently and they refuse to give it back you can seek legal action against them.

It's considered theft to keep money that was accidently transfered to your account (this is true as well if you are accidently overpaid by your employer).

Anyway, going back to the OP. Your friend can't just not pay you, whether or not she can get the money back. Can't you say, 'oh just pay me when your wages come through' or something? Surely she can't think it is fair that you have paid for her DD's costume and had nothing.

As someone else said the sort code would have to match the account number so chances are the account that she tried to pay the money into doesn't exist and it will just bounce back into her account.
