to think my ds might talk like his parents rather than Peppa Pig?

I'm Welsh and my DH is from Newcastle with Yorkshire parents. We both have no accent but say bath, castle and glass (among other examples) with a hard 'a' like in apple, like our parents do. Our DS (3.5) says those kinds of words with a soft 'a' like in farce. I swear it's from watching Peppa Pig who says grass etc with a soft 'a'!

Do you think he'll grow out of it and end up talking like us? I don't mind really. Just interested to hear what you all think :)

My DS is the same, we're from Edinburgh and although i would say i'm well spoken (when the occasion takes me)Wink my DS is rather posh with his words like car, and everything is finished with "isn't it" ? Like "this is delicious mummy, isn't it?" Hmm

All very funny tho!

"where's your feet to?" is yokel local for "where are your feet?". The sort of thing you might say to a v small child to get them to point.

I don't mind the accent as such, but there are some strange ways of phrasing things around these parts. E.g the use of "do" or "do you" for emphasis - "do you come and have a look at this!"

I am sitting here sounding out some of the words you're all saying to figure out how I say them with my Belfast accent. Suffice to say there are some big differences! Wink

The 5 year old DS of a friend of mine speaks with an English accent despite the fact that he's never lived in England and both parents are from N.Ireland Hmm Not sure if it's cuz he watches too much TV or cuz his paternal granda is English. Quite cute though.

Ah, thanks CokeFan. I am not speaking English as a first language and even though I have been living in the UK for year I couldn't make sense of it at all Blush
