Ok, so my period started yesterday. I was bleeding loads and in absolute agony, to the extent that I was crying and retching with the pain. (I always have v heavy and painful periods but this was much, much worse. It has happened before- I was sent home from work and went to the doctor, who said that my uterus was contracting so much that it was twisting, and that was why it hurt so much.)
I am on my way to work now, wearing 2 night time pads. I can already feel that I will need to change these as soon as I get to work. I am in pain despite the fact that I have taken v strong painkillers. I feel like crying and am constantly worried that I will bleed through my clothes.
Aibu to think that I would be justified in taking time off work? I am a teacher btw so would not be able to go to the toilet at will.

Really recommend Mirena coil.
Periods non existent now, but I am 52, but my 43 yr old SIL has one too and she told me she just doesn't have periods any more, even at her age.
Had my coil after the period from hell one weekend and knew it would have proved impossible to be at work in that situation.

Just come back on here after day at work (I know!) to find all these lovely messages. Thank you so much mumsnetters for being so supportive :) the pain was actually ok today but bled lots, had to ask a colleague to pop into a class this morning so I could change my pads. Have been through 6 night time pads since this morning. Am going to get a Gp appointment ASAP. Like so many of you have said, I can't be expected to put up with this.

I had my mirena fitted when I was 36 and it stopped my periods immediately. I can't say enough about how life changing it was for me.

Definitely take the day off!

I used to have awful periods - not so bad now - but I still get one every so often where I will soak through a maxi tampon AND pad within an hour. I don't get a huge amount of pain now, but used to pass out as a teenager so I sympathise.
