Whether this is against the law depends on the law of the country where he did it, which was probably not the UK! We don't generally try to apply our criminal law abroad and if we did it would be considered "neo-colonialist" and righty so.

Before there were the child sex laws/prostitution etc in other countries, the UK called for those that indulged in what was illegal practices in the UK, but not abroad, to be 'named and shamed', this should apply to all activities.

If it is outside of the persons 'cultural norms', it is wrong, they should live in the country that they want to indulge their hobbies in and take the cons with the pros of such lax laws and standards of behaviour.

It is exploitation of poor nations and their people in the indulging of such 'hobbies'.

The killing of such animals isn't true hunting, unless they are going out into the bush armed with a spear. They very nature of the trip, the weapons, using knowledgeable guides etc, takes away the true meaning and skill needed, they haven't achieved anything. It's like killing a mixy rabbit.

Not sure what being a Tory has to do with it. Some people have extremely unpleasant pastimes, some busy themselves with playing chess. My brother in law is a retired Tory banker who has never killed anything on purpose (although he'd really not keen on wasps). He is a Quaker and also spends his time in Africa but has put all his money into running a huge project for rural children. You will also find many Tories making jam and having lunches to raise money for all sorts of worthy causes. Where I live, in the country, there are people of all political colours who like nothing better than to get out and shoot stuff. I have no idea what this man is like. I suspect he wouldn't be my cup of tea at all, if I met him. But if you can really think of NO-ONE you dislike more you are clearly living a charmed life.

By the way - a stuffed lion costs £35,000. Died of old age apparently - that old chestnut. I happen to know a man who deals in such things. Sold a stuffed polar bear to a famous (now deceased) fashion designer and a big brown bear to a leading actor. You'd be surprised who buys this stuff. And I don't believe him that it's all supplied by zoos....
