a few of the mums think its unreasonable for the school to ask us to pay £1 a week for the children to have some fresh fruit everyday.

am i the only one who thinks you'd be hard pushed to buy fresh fruit for your child for a whole week for under £1?

tight arses

DD is in KS 1 and so gets free fruit daily, she will sometimes eat it and sometimes not. It isnt great quality imo and isnt washed before serving so I wouldnt want to pay for it.

When dd was in preschool I sent her with fruit daily and would happily do that again instead. I realise some kids (prob my dd some weeks and we arent rich) would have 'fancy' fruits and others wouldnt but it doesnt matter, the kids with packed lunchs have different foods and it isnt seen as a huge issue.

SexualHarrassmentPandaPop · 11/09/2011 20:36

I would pay it but dd pays £3 a half term so £1 a week would seem excessive to me.

Wilson - I was really hoping you'd say that the Scottish Govt had had a change of policy and that DC3 would be getting free fruit for the next 7 years!

disney84 · 11/09/2011 20:45

It may only be £1. However, I resent it a dc are of an age where it should be free. Plus one of them never eats it. Plus school openly admits that they profit from it.

WilsonFrickett · 11/09/2011 20:49

Maisie it looks like some authorities are even cutting the first couple of years free...

mercibucket · 11/09/2011 20:53

we pay in nursery and reception £1 a week for milk and fruit- this is in English state primary. I only used to pay for one child when I had one in each class as one refused to eat fruit and the other didn't drink milk, so by my reasoning, they were only using one child's allowance. I am a tight arse. Bet the school got it free anyway

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 11/09/2011 20:54

Oh no - just typical Sad

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 11/09/2011 20:54

That was for Wilson btw!

littleducks - I don't know who your fruit provider is but ours are great quality and often organic. How do you know the fruit isn't washed? It should be, it's the first job of the day for the class TA here!

littleducks · 11/09/2011 22:25

I am not sure who the provider is but I am pretty sure it isnt organic, I have seen the fruit, it is fine some day s and limp on others. Nobody washes it, i figured that it wasnt worth making a fuss over it isnt muddy/dirty just I always wash fruit or veg so seems a bit yucky to me!
