I turned 40 this year and have a terrible, growing, overwhelming urge to do something totally inappropriate. So I was hoping some of you could inspire me on how to have an interesting, fun mid-life crisis (preferably without really embrrassing long-term consequences). Blush No interest in flash cars (good, can't afford them), woke up today with a sudden urge to dye my hair bright pink or blue - v dark hair so would be quite a fag to do, but might provoke a little frisson in the playground... anyone got any suggestions? :)

Pfff... you're probably right. But suspect dh and possibly dcs might be upset at the fact that I'd like to go out a lot more, a lot later, say fuck it a lot more and drink more. Is that so wrong?

Enjoy the fact there's a 4 in front of your midlife. Have just turned 50 and am still wondering and so far the only crisis has been hot flushes and the tablets have sorted those out. OTH I have, for the first time in a long time bought an above the knee skirt (lost a stone in preparation see) and the mortgage was almost paid off before the big endowment matured and I told DH that I was having a brand new car for the first time ever and I have one and it's lovely and shiny and I will never worry that it might have been mistreated in the past.

I have always done things rather early in life, so I had my mid-life crisis at 31 Grin
So far, I have quit school, supported DH in changing careers entierly, cut off 8 inches of hair, and coloured it, quit smoking, and started writing a cookbook / household manual.
In 4 months, I am moving across Canada. I don't know which side we will be on yet.

I don't know anyone on either side, so there are going to be lots of oppertunities to make a first impression.
It also means there are a lot of oppertunities to make a terible first impression Grin
I'm scared but I want to do it anyhow.

I had a fantastic mid-life crisis.

I threw my husband out, divorced him and swapped my people carrier for an MX-5 2 seater convertable.

I make a point of going out once a month with the girls at lunch time on a Saturday, have a bite to eat and then spend the rest of the day on one mad pub crawl and get home about mid-night.

The rest of the time I am a very sensible, hard-working single mum and I love it.

Planning, planning...

Been listening to lots of very loud music in preparation... Wondering if mid-life crisis means reverting to being a teenager? Well, the fun bits, not the acne and worrying bits... :)

Had mine at 35 after splitting from XP.

Bleached hair white blonde and spent 3 months partying on a Spanish island in not terribly appropriate clothes (had also joined gym and lost 3 stones).

I kept saying "I'm going to do this now cos you never know what's round the corner."

A year later I had my first DC!
