How much you pay for shoes, trainers etc for your dc?

Leaning more towards teenage boy with large man feet.

It is an AIBU by the way, your answers may help me solve a blazing row slight disagreement with the exp Grin

Perhaps he should then shop with his DS for trainers, and you can bitch 'too much' when he asks for your half next time? Grin Given that his son is 14, it should not have come as a surprise that prices would be near what he pays for his own shoes, surely? And £35 is pretty good.

TrillianAstra · 09/09/2011 17:12

Get the CSA involved and make him pay proper maintenance.

parkgate · 09/09/2011 17:50

It's an absent paretnthing - they often feel out of control and don't like being informed of how much they have to pay for something after the event.

You were able (well, not as if you want to trapse around the shops with a teenage boy!) to go to the shop and weigh up market rates, decide on which par he was going to have and buy them according to budget you had set.. he just received the invoice. And as completly moronic as it is, was shocked by the amount.

Never underestimate his stupidity in future and agree costs upfront. That would be my advice. But of course £35 isn't too much.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 09/09/2011 17:53

I just got my son a pair of bootleg trainers and a pair of umbro football boots.

£1.50 each.

Charity shop.

Both barely worn.

Voidka · 09/09/2011 17:55

My DS (10) is into converse atm, so about £35 a pair and he has 2.
Then he has a pair of play shoes - £8 from Sainsbos
School shoes - £10 from Tesco.

DS2 (4) has a pair of school shoes - £35 from Barratts (only place I could find tiny size 6 black shoes).
Kicker boots - £25 in the sale last year.
Trainers £10 from Next.

DD has Peppa Pig shoes £12 and Kickers boots £35.

BalloonSlayer · 09/09/2011 17:59

Trills I have seen you peering through your lorgnettes at quite a few posters recently for the crime of posting in an inappropriate section Grin

Solo · 09/09/2011 18:00

YANBU. Your ex is an idiot.

Ds is a size 9 man size shoe. His Kickers were £60 for school. My Mum paid for those.

His Nike trainers were about £22 from Soccer Sports or Sports World (can't remember) for school and other activities, weekends etc. He also has some Primark pretend converse things that were, I think £6.

LadyOfTheManor · 09/09/2011 18:05

My husband is a size 13 I paid £70 for his last trainers...his work boots cost around £120...normal evening shoes/loafers around £50 a pair (Burtons if he buys them) or around £60 (M&S if I buy them)

bruffin · 09/09/2011 18:06

DS nearly 16 size 11, last school shoes were £30 from clarks

He has a pair of limited edition WHO converses which cost £45

can't remember how much trainers cost, but upper limit on shoes is usually £40 with out it being for something special, think the converses were last years birthday present.

riverrock · 09/09/2011 18:07

Ds age 12 foot size 8 ( adult size ) school shoes ?70 (kickers)

School trainers ?60 (adidas)

eaglewings · 09/09/2011 18:08

£27 was the cheapest trainers icouod find in an adult size 8 for DS. Sadly they didn't fit, ended up spending over £30

troisgarcons · 09/09/2011 18:10

14yo with size 12 feet.

Kickers are the only thing that last - so £70-£90 or where ever has a sale on. I wouldnt touch Clarkes now, they don't last 3 weeks.

Trainers - JD sports, whenever they have a super sale on - so several pair at the begining of the summer holiday at approx £20-£24 each.

Don't start me on astro turf boots, football boots, cricket spikes and golf shoes ...

BakeliteBelle · 09/09/2011 18:11

Blue H&M canvas shoes £9.99

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/09/2011 18:20

jubilee10 · 09/09/2011 18:42

Ds1 (15) and ds2 (14) both size 9 feet - black school shoes £15 (Brantano) and trainers £40 which they wear all the time.

Ds3 (5) size 10 feet - school shoes £34, Clarks, Trainers £28, Clarks.

MadShoeLady · 09/09/2011 18:48

Ah but I had a plan Trillian. I was toying with the idea of maybe showing him some honest replies which was why I didn't put the full story at first...

But you ruined it...ruined it I say.

(Not that it matters now I now i'm right Grin)

dd age 6 school shoes £15 trainers £i think they were around £15-20
the younger children pretty much the same apart from my baby who only has soft shoe so far so less. I feel like i am vastly underspending now!

Solo · 10/09/2011 00:46

Is it my imagination, or are children getting bigger feet? I mean, size 8/9 used to be the average mans shoe size, but now we are seeing kids in size 9, 10, 12 and bigger! Shock never thought I'd have been catering for a 12yo in a size 9.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 10/09/2011 09:01

I agree Solo - DS aged 13 is wearing size 11, and beginning to complain his shoes are feeling tight Sad He's 5' 10" so maybe that's about right, but DH is 6' 1" and only wears a 10. DD is 12 and has size 7 feet and DS2 is 4 and he wears a small size 11, which seems on the large side.

borderslass · 10/09/2011 09:05

£35 for size 11 trainers is cheap DS is 17 and size 11, his last trainers where £40 but we managed to get them from an outlet store otherwise they would of been about £70.
