To buy this flooring for the bedrooms in my flat after finding out

DS2 hasn't got over his carpet fibre allergy?

DS1 wants this

or this

and this for DS2 and my bedrooms

I thought it would be ok but have had some people say it will look tacky, I can't afford laminate flooring and this is the next best thing I reckon. I plan to have a rug in DS1 and my bedrooms and to find something to go on DS2's floor to make it more comfortable to sit and play.

be very careful with the cusion lino, we put some in our hallway as it was affordable and it has been ruined by people wearing heels. This damage could easily be done with some furntiure also I would think. Really got to me when it happened, 1 becaise it was new and 2 I dont even wear heels so would of been fine for just us!!

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/09/2011 14:39

well obviously I did on here Grin

NTGAL, Wink I will remind DS1 and 2 to remove their heels before they go in the bedrooms in that case Grin

No seriously thanks for that info!

I found a lovely one on ebay for their rooms its only £39 per room Grin

We have that kind of flooring in my daughter's bedroom. She picked out a black, slate tile effect one (typical teenager). We also bought rolls of sound proofing felt to lay underneath it so as not to disturb the person sleeping in the room below (ie me).

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/09/2011 14:45

Seems to be more popular than I thought.

My mum reckons I was born years too late with my likes and dislikes of things Hmm she keeps saying I remind her of my nan, her mum with my tastes and interests

For DS's rooms

It's fab, all the spills of goo that go and hand in hand with kids just get mopped up with no lasting damage.

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/09/2011 14:52

Klad, thats what I thought along side the benefits for DS2.

I recently laid laminate flooring (got off of freegle) in the living room where he spends most of his time and his eczema looks so much calmer until he goes in his bedroom Sad

We have cork in all the bedrooms, it's great, warm underfoot and sound insulating. Forget about those nasty orange tiles you used to get it now comes in planks (like laminate) with a range of patterns and colours. And it's a renewable resource. Smile

piratecat · 08/09/2011 18:49

mothership, do you have a link to what you bought?

PenguinPatter · 08/09/2011 19:00

We have cork as well but not as classy as MothershipG's- as ours is in in squares though not orange. DC with eczema and need for cheap flooring - looks quite good.

Works well with sound proofing and makes keeping rooms dust free easier than carpets.

I think vinyl floors are a pain and always start to roll up etc. I would look in to very cheap tile. If you and dh get a tile cutter it can be done very cheaply by yourselfves. For about the same price as vinyl.

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/09/2011 20:42

Zukie, the one on ebay is cheaper Wink

Have seen THIS one down with a rug over and I HONESTLY thought it was real wood.

tyler80 · 08/09/2011 21:17

Buy what you like, it doesn't matter what other's think.

The only part of your post that's unreasonable is saying you can't afford laminate and then linking to something else that's more expensive per square metre :-)

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/09/2011 21:32

Tyler, I can get the vinyl flooring for the boys rooms 11ft x 9 for £39 each laminate is a lot dearer

OP posts:
tyler80 · 08/09/2011 21:40

You can find laminate for 4 pounds a square metre, so more or less the same price as you've quoted for vinyl

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/09/2011 21:42

Tyler can you show me where please as I looked before deciding on vinyl

tyler80 · 08/09/2011 21:49

The B & Q site won't let me link but they have some, currently reduced. 13.44 would buy you a pack that covers 3.0m2 so you'd need 4 or so packs per room I think.

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/09/2011 21:55

and then for my room how much would i need?

17ft x 14ft

We have lino 'tile effect' in our kitchen and my dad actually said "who laid your kitchen floor tiles?" the first time he came round! Go for it!

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/09/2011 22:00

Anna, I think I have my heart set on lino. I just love it....maybe thats wrong but I do!!

theincredibequeenofwands · 08/09/2011 22:15

We have lino in our bedrooms (and downsairs).

Is warm, durable and easy to clean. I also think it loos really nice.

I have no idea why it's so weirdly unfashionable.

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/09/2011 22:33

TIQOW I am so glad I am not alone in liking it or wondering why it is unfashionable Smile

I have decided to get the one linked further up off of ebay its Mist which is black wood for the boys rooms...DS1 is so going to love it it will match his wardrobe and bedroom doors.

I wish they did it in the right colour for DS2's room but thats a choice of new york taxi yellow or blue Grin
