Which are better

iron on

or

sew in?

I need to order some for DS2's uniform. I have already left it late as he starts next week Wednesday.

worraliberty · 07/09/2011 19:02

Oh, I thought you wanted to write our opinions on the tags for some reason Blush

camdancer · 07/09/2011 19:03

Sharpie.

Proudnscary · 07/09/2011 19:04

Worra - literally pissed meself!

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/09/2011 19:05

Worra Grin

Proud I need to know which are better!!!

I sat and embroidered DS1's name in all his uniform until he was in year 2 and then I stopped. I don't have enough hours in the day to do this for DS2 Sad

So which is better sew in or iron on?

and whats sharpie?

florencepink · 07/09/2011 19:07

Sew on definitely, take a bit more time but they don't come off Smile

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/09/2011 19:07

Florence thanks

sew on - 1

iron on - 0

I find iron ones last well (2 years and counting!) although others disagree, you need to get decent ones though (I use mini-label)
Also I do tend to have a blatant disregard for instructions and keep the iron pressed down for ages! Smile

MarkStretch · 07/09/2011 19:10

Sew on- iron on ones fall off.

But I spent 3 hrs of my Saturday night sewing DD's (9) name into everything. However, I am sick to death of losing school uniform, by the end of last term we were rooting through the lost property at school searching for cardigans as we had NONE left at home.

IT WILL NOT HAPPEN THIS YEAR.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/09/2011 19:11

Livin where do you get yours?

hmm 1 all now

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 07/09/2011 19:12

Minilabel.co.uk

I am usually in the minority though on this debate!

AWimbaWay · 07/09/2011 19:20

I just lazily scrawl on the label with a permanent marker.

DanJARMouse · 07/09/2011 19:22

I never really bothered but at the end of last term we lost 3 jumpers in 2 weeks! I got the sewing machine out and ordered sew in ones from eBay - 48hr turnaround!

AWimbaWay · 07/09/2011 19:23

Ha, just spotted this thread

Choufleur · 07/09/2011 19:24

Neither - just write DS's name in things with a permanent marker (CD pen ussually)

WilsonFrickett · 07/09/2011 19:27

Permanent marker on the label. Do you embroider his sandwiches as well? Bless.

Crinklecut · 07/09/2011 19:28

I had some iron on ones from mynametags.com which have not come off (and the stick on ones have remained on cups for over 3 years so far).

slartybartfast · 07/09/2011 19:30

sew, or get someone else to

use a marker pen

FannyFifer · 07/09/2011 19:32

Mynametags we use as well, still on uniforms from last year, stick on labels still on gym shoes & pencil case from last year too.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/09/2011 19:34

Wilson, no but I do iron his socks.

Another vote for sew on, it looks so much nicer than pen and peeling labels Wink

bigscarymum · 07/09/2011 19:53

I like the new stick in ones (Stikins) which you attach to the washing label. They also stick well to the back of a tie. I tend to buy a selection because you cant iron/stick on everything. Sometimes you just have to sew or write. I use labels4kids but I suspect they are all much of a muchness.
