to complain to this school?

We have to park next to an infant school to go to swimming lessons.

As we walked past the entrance DD3, waved very mucky hands at me and told me she needed to wash her hand as they were filthly. I asked her where she got the blackness on her hands from and she didn't know.

I looked around a bit, expecting to find a dirty car with "Clean Me" inscribed on it, but instead saw signs informing us of anti-climb paint!! AAArgh.

By this time, its all over her new school fleece (yup, first wear today).

I'm guessing it won't wash out, it's currently in the superfandango 3hour washso fingers crossed, but if not it's £18.50 down the drain.

so AIBU to complain to this school?

why?
it must have been there for a reason

fivegomadindorset · 06/09/2011 22:53

YABU if there were signs out.

RedOnion · 06/09/2011 22:54

Complain about what?

That they use anti climb paint to prevent climbing and you let your child climb? Um...eh?

worraliberty · 06/09/2011 22:54

I may have dreamt this but I'm sure there are rules about anti climb paint having to be a certain height, if it's not on private property?

worraliberty · 06/09/2011 22:55

I mean so you can't accidentally lean on it/touch it.

slavetofilofax · 06/09/2011 22:56

It does seem a bit of an odd way to prevent climbing at an infant school!

I wouldn't complain, but only because the best solution you could hope for would involve them reimbursing you for the fleece, and that would mean taking money out of the school budget.

GypsyMoth · 06/09/2011 22:56

Did she climb high?

GypsyMoth · 06/09/2011 22:57

Better have this on the Walls than have their property vandalised though, surely?

Valpollicella · 06/09/2011 22:57

Re it being over a certain height - kind of...
Typically it is applied from a height of 8 ft / 2,4 metres above the ground. It is the responsibility of the user to check his local legislation and regulations regarding the use of this paint

So it depends on the local council.

But yanbu to be pissed off

By the way, it's oil based that paint.... I don't hold out much hope....

2shoes · 06/09/2011 22:58

people do break into infant schools and vandalize them, so perhaps it is to prevent that

RedOnion · 06/09/2011 22:58

Generally it is used 8ft from the ground.

I don't believe that it was anti climb paint unless you have a half monkey Grin

Normal paint?

worraliberty · 06/09/2011 22:59

Thanks Val that's what I thought because otherwise surely the parents and kids would get covered in it just going in and out of the gate when it's busy?

mercibucket · 06/09/2011 23:01

first you need to go back and try and climb this fence to see if
it is anti climb
and it is where the black stuff came from
cos right now, it doesn't sound like it definitely came off that fence
my kids get filthy in a millisecond, no anti-vandal paint needed

worraliberty · 06/09/2011 23:03

first you need to go back and try and climb this fence to see if it is anti climb

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when she explains that to the Police

"Honestly Officer...there was this discussion on Mumsnet..." Grin

mercibucket · 06/09/2011 23:04
Grin
CouldIBEAnyMoreChaotic · 06/09/2011 23:09

Oh sorry.

The fence was approx 7feet high, and I'd say that it was over the top 6 inches of it.

(am I showing my age?)

OP posts:
worraliberty · 06/09/2011 23:10

How did she get it on herself then? Surely she didn't climb to within the top six inches of a 7ft fence? Confused

nancy75 · 06/09/2011 23:11

so she climbed 6 and a half foot up a fence? and you didn't notice Confused

usualsuspect · 06/09/2011 23:13

what was she doing that high up the fence?

CouldIBEAnyMoreChaotic · 06/09/2011 23:16

Sorry posted too fast (multi-tasking)

She didn't climb, but obviously someone had been and then rubbed their hands on a yellow bollardy thing that she'd tried to leapfrog.

[grr]

I think my complaint would be along the lines of "yeah, good idea, and I understand, but it's too moveable".

I'm just naffed off abotu the coat.

OP posts:
worraliberty · 06/09/2011 23:26

It's hardly the school's fault that your child leapfrogged a bollard? Confused

That's like complaining to a bakers shop because your child got cream on her hands due to touching a lamp post after someone bought an eclair and wiped it on there.

Valpollicella · 06/09/2011 23:28

How long left on the w/m cycle Chaos?

CouldIBEAnyMoreChaotic · 06/09/2011 23:29

Yeah you're probably right.

Mebbe I shouldn't have worded it complain.

Perhaps inform that there's some paint smeatred on a bollock?

So it can be cleaned up before more fresh uniforms are wreckde?

OP posts:
worraliberty · 06/09/2011 23:32

I think it's the council's job...probably a word to their cleaning team?

LetThereBeRock · 06/09/2011 23:37

I don't think the council cleaning team get paid enough to clean paint from anyone's bollocks.Grin
