On the basis that people are more likely to be open on an anonymous forum? To make it comparable, lets exclude mortgage/rent and childcare costs as these can vary significantly.

We spend 2800 pcm on average two of us and two DCs. This includes everything - insurances, MOT, unanticipated costs, hols, christmas spending etc.

Bloody hell!
It might be 'Grim up North' but at least it's cheap.

4k in per month

3k direct debits, 1k for food/incidental expenses/holidays/presents.

Not one penny left over and have to be quite careful with food as there's always an unexpected expense eg. 200 out of this month has to go on car servicing.

FemaleYouNicked · 06/09/2011 12:23

We're 8k a month, not incl mortgage. However, 2,500 goes on salaries for help so that we can both work, have happy DCs and keep the house from looking like a cesspit looking nice. (me freelance so from home) and we travel quite a bit. I also wear M&S underwear and high street clothes, not designer. We do have to entertain a lot and it costs a ruddy fortune.

we have an income of just under £1000 a month and spend about £1200. (That does include mortgage). So far, every time we've been up shit creek and about to really suffer, we've had a minor miracle (unexpected inheritance, gift of a new boiler, small lottery win etc) and been saved in the nick of time. We try not to think about what will happen eventually when the mini miracle doesn't come. We have 5 kids, 4 of them still at home.

We're about £850 a month for household bills, including mortgage & council tax.
Spend about £300 on food shopping a month.
House insurance and car insurance paid annually so no monthly payments there.
Petrol for 2 cars about £160 a month.

LadyLapsang · 06/09/2011 12:51

Goodness knows...as long as I don't have any debts and we keep saving.

Some similarities with MIW, but don't spend so much on house insurance and no singing lessons here Smile

DH's motorbike, motorbike holidays etc. seems to be a money pit and I probably spend too much on clothes, theatre, ballet, opera....

Teachermumof3 · 06/09/2011 12:51

We bring home about £3.5k each month and, not counting mortgage/childcare, spend about

£400 on food
£100 on petrol
£320 on train tickets
£240 bills
£120 car/house/life/cat insurance
£40 phone/BT/broadband

Still never have anything left over!

MugglesandLuna · 06/09/2011 12:54

£350 Mortgage
£105 Council Tax
£150 Utilities
£800 food (including Milkman)
£120 Preschool fees
£40 water rates
£35 Sky
£150 savings
£200 Holidays account
£40 Home insurance
£30 life insurance
£50 DH's pension
£7.50 scouts fees
£40 DD's riding lessons.

Then we have about £200 spare for incidentals - school trips, car expenses and days out.

It looks like a lot when its written down.
