....for my 10 yr old DD?

thats it basically. she thinks it is child cruelty. I have seen her eat an apple with skin on before, and am no longer willing to pander to it, plus, she knows where the peeler lives.

YANBU. The peel is the best part of the apple. I used to get my grandmother/mother to peel an apple for me so that I could eat the peel separately as it was my favourite part.Blush

You should get one of these www.lakeland.co.uk/13181/Apple-Master

My 3 year old can use it to peel and slice his own apples plus if you like the peel, it makes great apple peel spaghetti!

Grin at orange peel smile.
I do this even if on my own.

When I first sawq a friend's mother peel an apple, at age about 8, I thought That's peculiar but fortunately did not say so. I have never peeled an apple since (except for MIL who is indeed peculiar, so there you go, I was right) and that is fifty years ago.

Wash and enjoy. Don't waste.

Simple washing doesn't remove pesticides.

You have to do this

MissMap · 06/09/2011 16:09

Do it ,soon she will be too old to want you to do little things for her anymore .

I often ask my Dc can I peel and quarter a necterine for them as I did when they were little and they laugh in my face! They are nearly grown up now though!

I dont like nectarines myself, but peeling and quatering them in the french way makes me feel all nostalgic for my DC childhood. Ahh! --so sad!

DS1 likes them peeled, so he can eat the skin separately Blush

I do usually peel and cut up apples for DC, but that's because that way they get eaten. When faced with a whole apple, they nibble around the middle and then announce it's finished.

YANBU though

Let her peel her own. I allow my eldest (7) to peel his own apple, suddenly he realises he can't be bothered.

mrsmellow · 06/09/2011 16:15

oh my goodness hiddenhome.. really?! brush all the apples in the house with a toothbrush and hydrogen peroxide - after washing them in a vinegar solution... makes peeling them look effortless!

I peel the kids apples. It's because I had apple trees in my garden when I was a kid that I know the skin is not supposed to look like it is coated in 3 layers of Mr Sheen. I don't even care if it is edible and safe waxy polish, it's just not right.
