At lunch. My 9mo DS eating his shepherds pie, her DD eating her carrot stix things. He was trying to grab them off her (and her fruit shoot which I dont like.) I realise this is a MN cliche. Im not a troll. Friend said 'Can he have one of her carrot sticks? He wants one'

I said no because I dont really like crisps myself, they looked bright orange - they had stained her DD's fingers - and they were for 12 months +. And I doubt he 'wanted' one. He grabs for everything.

She said I was uptight, and she agrees with me on some things but that was too far as they were melty and he'd be fine. I wasnt too worried about choking, it was the orange stained fingers and the fact I dont like crisps that put me off!

Anyway, I know I wasnt really BU because I can feed him however I choose to, but am I really uptight?

YANBU or uptight. Your baby, your decision and appropriate to err on the side of caution.

I made the point that I dont like crisps because it means it would never occur to me to buy crisps for me or the baby. Calm down people!!!

Also, I guess they are ok for treats. But as far as I knew then they could have been anything.

I said no because I dont really like crisps myself, . . . I wasnt too worried about choking, it was the orange stained fingers and the fact I dont like crisps that put me off!

Are you saying that the only reason you didn't give him a crisps was because you don't like crisps . . . as in eating them or in theory?

If it's because you don't like the taste of them then YABU. You do realise that your children won't like all the same things as you don't you? If you don't like carrots or peas will you still give them to your dcs?

If it's because you don't like the idea of them (the health thing) then that's different.

Maybe you are a bit uptight at the moment - I was before DD turned a year, but I'm better now.

But ultimately it's up to you what your child eats, and I would NOT have appreciated someone telling me I was uptight just because I didn't to things their way.

Mammie81 - you are perfectly right to decide when your ds is old enough to eat something.

However, just a little word of advice, don't 'ban' certain foodstuff because you don't like / disapprove of them as this will just encourage your dc to go behind your back when at nursery / school.

My Aunty never allowed her dd to eat crisps only to be highly embarrassed to find her dd was swapping her wholemeal prawn salad sarnies for packets of crisps at school lunchtimes.

At least if you allow a few as a treat once or twice a week when your ds is older then at least you will retain some control.
