She will be 10 in 2 weeks.
I have just shelled out for school uniform/shoes etc.
She really needs some tops, pj's, undies, she wants a denim jacket etc.
AIBU to buy her stuff (that she needs and would likely get anyway), and wrap it up as a birthday present.
As she is getting a netbook as her main present, she wont be getting anything else.
Normally, I would get one main present and a few little things (CD's, books, make up etc) to go with it, but because the netbook is so expensive, that is it this year.

Okey thank you.
Netbook main pressie, will get her a few little things, lip gloss, pens etc, maybe a CD, and only the "nice" clothes she has mentioned as presents. Think the Hollister hoodie wil have to wait for xmas though. And suggestions for a nice cropped denim jacket for a tall, developed 10year old?

If she would fit into a women's size 8 or over then New Look.

yabu, you should get her an iPod Shuffle (or some other personal portable musical device) instead. Wink
DD is nearly 10yo & would go mental (with giddy happiness) if I offered to buy her clothes for her birthday. But she'd want "stuff" too, and wouldn't want to choose clothes OR....

I have a feeling OP's budget of clothes+"a few little things" is way more than my total for DD, anyway.

excellent, perfect one there, she should be ok in a 6 or 8.

Hmm well her dad (my XH) bought her a top of the range ipod touch last xmas, so she has that.
I had said we would wait for the netbook until secondary school, but she does use my laptop a fair bit, and my ancient Vaio is our only computer.
As said netbook will be paid for with vouchers, but yes I appreciate I am lucky to be able to buy these things for her.

oh she won't want to actually go shopping for clothes, her idea of hell on earth. School uniform mostly bought online.
But she is becoming more aware and asking for things.

Er,... wait a minute.
"Hell on Earth"?
Some great birthday outing that will be then.... ?Confused
And why does she need a denim jacket?
Undies & tops do sound like basics you should cover as utility stuff and not pretend are a birthday present.
Is she excited & happy about the Netbook?

fuckthisforalarf · 03/09/2011 17:24

Umm I am not taking her shopping. Have just ordered a denim jacket and nice pj's (more than the basics I would usually buy) online.
Will get the tops and undies/basics from primark/asda etc later on.
She is very excited about the netbook, is not an asky child, and will be more than happy with that.
I guess its more about me than her, I like her to feel spoilt and loved on her birthday. birthdays when I was growing up were all pretty shitty thanks to my arse of a father and scatty mother, so I like them to be a big deal.

I bet she will love it. Mine would do cartwheels getting a netbook!

My DD is 10 next month and she is getting a coat as a main gift because it's branded and I wouldn't pay that much for an everyday coat. She knows about it as she is big for her age so will have to try it on. She can't wait.

I don't have any qualms about expensive branded clothes being gifts for birthday or Christmas, IMO they will appreciate it all the more.

I also Grin at Etam.

Ah, sorry I got wrong picture.

Well just saw a friends mum, her daughter just turned 10 as well.
She got an Ipad Shock. I know a netbook is expensive but it is basic model (£200) and I have saved my vouchers all year. Friend is low earning, always very skint, struggles to pay mortgage, and os losing her work lease car in a month. No idea how they can afford an Ipad (nor would I get one, having been through the trauma of a smashed ipod).
