A friend and her family came to see us earlier this week. It was lovely to see her but she mentioned that her DS had been projectile vomiting for a few days last week and that she had been up the night before throwing up all night. I did not think too much of it but..

come Weds morning I was feeling queasy, then suffered from a severe vomiting attack ( and I never vomit) and have had severe abdominal pains since. I am six months pregnant , have a 3 year old DS and a DH who is useless when in comes to illness (too busy and stressed with other things to care that much). I still cannot eat anything, still feel nauseous and still have severe abdominal pains. Have been to midwife and had BP etc checked so know baby is ok but 3 days of feeling this shit, looking after a 3 yo and being pregnant makes me think that it would have been best if she had phoned to say they had been ill and not come over!

Very thoughtless of her. There is a horrid tummy bug going around at the moment, we've all had it here. :( hope you feel better soon.

ViviPru · 02/09/2011 21:43

NO NO NO YANBremotelyU. This is one of my pet peeves - thoughtless germspreading. Hope you feel better soon.

pozzled · 02/09/2011 21:46

YABU to be 'a bit annoyed', I'd be bloody fuming! I'd have left 48 hours before seeing anyone, and even after that time would call in advance and give you the option of refusing.

KittyFane · 02/09/2011 21:47

Sorry but I hate it when people casually mention all night vomiting when I see them. Not good etiquette!! :)

KittyFane · 02/09/2011 21:48

YANBU!

TheArmadillo · 02/09/2011 21:49

YANBU - it is incrediably thoughtless even when someone isn't pregnant/elderly/small child/or otherwise restricted immune system, to do that when you are one of the above is doubly so.

You'd have to be an idiot plus incrediably self centred to visit while ill, especially with something as horrible as a stomach bug.

I'd tell her this.

hellymelly · 02/09/2011 21:49

With a vomiting bug you have to wait five days after all symptoms have gone before you aren't contagious. I had a hideous one while preg so I sympathise. My mother had just had a stroke and I couldn't visit her in hospital until the five days was up on the advise of the hospital. So yes,you are right to be annoyed. It is easier to catch anything when pregnant as your immune system is suppressed,so she should have let you know beforehand at the very least.

sugarbea · 02/09/2011 21:53

YANBU I hate this.. Right up there with people taking their germ ridden spluttery contagious offspring to soft play and play groups. My dd is in the early stages of chicken pox thanks to a girl who had them in full force on the plane! Angry (I'm not sure how she was allowed to fly) I know you can't help catching these things but you can help not to spread it if you have it!

acatcalledfelix · 02/09/2011 21:53

I HATE this and do not understand at all what people are thinking when they casually mention "oh I / DC was up all night on the loo / /throwing up" whilst sitting right next to you drinking your tea!!!!!

YANBU at all, esp as you're pg. Get well soon xxxx

jigglebum · 02/09/2011 21:54

I did not realise that pregnancy could have such an impact on your immune system but now I do it does make me more annoyed about it. Never had a bug like this for 3 days - normally have a pretty good defence to these things! Just hoping DS does not catch it next. DH on the other hand....!! (Given the lack of help and sympathy from him over last few days would be welcome to it!!)

Shock Angry

Bloody hell - and you're pregnant? How incredibly inconsiderate of her!

ChippingIn · 02/09/2011 22:05

Use DH's toothbrush - a lot Grin

She's not so much a friend as an enemy of the nation! Very very selfish & stupid behaviour from her.

TidyDancer · 02/09/2011 22:06

YANBU. What a thoughtless friend.

WhiteTrash · 02/09/2011 22:12

I met up with a friend on a Sunday recently with ds2 who was 6 weeks at tje time. After a couple of hours together he told me in detail about his stomach bug 24 hours before. Needless to say I got it the next day and was fretting about ds. Luckily he didnt get it (not sure how?!) but I was a bit miffed.

If I were you Id be very very miffed.

YADNBU.

Once had a One Knight Stand with best friend's brother, a strong silent type I'd heard about but not met before.

A few days later, I missed my dream job through being unable to speak at interview.

Turns out he was strong talkative type, but had a throat infection when he screwed me.

Bastard.
