Just had to pay over two hundred pounds the charges for this year are in total 415.71 we live in a 2 bedroom housing association house .Just dissapointed that the coalition have done nothing about reducing things like this its more for a year than im likely to earn in one month .Im the only wage earner no other income ,Im going to try the water meter option
Just thought people might want to compare the cost this one is United utilities in merseyside. if you are unemployed i think you get some help but we dont mind you you would need help on 67 pound a week

I live on a meter in the south west, which have the highest prices!!
Our bill is £56 for three adults two of which work full time, and we are hardly home.

South west water keep placing direct debt up, but we dont use a lot. All I hear is "well there is three people" and I go "but we are in credit loads"

Same with the gas and the electric. These people are just greedy and I could use that money.

If you have three or more children living at home, and are in reciept of certain benifits then it's worth asking your water supplier if they can cap your water rates. Mine have been capped at just short of £300, and that's cut my bill in half. My supplier is Welsh Water.

At the moment, some areas need more investment than others, especially in the sewage aspect; eg to provide better outflow pumping stations, to repair leaks, to separate sewage and surface water, and to increase capacity.

Since privatisation, that cost all falls on to the local bill payer. If Ofwat says no tyo bill inceases, the investment and repairs don't happen. But people's homes could get flooded - sometimes with raw sewage.

Meanwhile shareholders reap their dividends.

Water and sewage should never have been privatised.

we have a small 2 bed condo. Our water bill includes sewage treatment, water pipes repairs and I think refuse collection. We pay about $100-120 a month! I always grimace at the bill, especially as the break down makes it clear only about $30-$40 is for water use.

Just read our meter last night. 53 litres for 6 months for 2 adults and a baby. Dishwasher, lots of washing, I work mostly from home and boyfriend is part-time so lots of lol flushing. Promise we're not scuzzy, I'm just militant about not allowing waste. E.g., no running water for teeth brushing/leg shaving/etc.

So approx 150 a year or so.

Er, litre = cubic metres. 53 litres would be scuzzy haha!
