Has "God" conspired with British Gas to keep the heating bills as high as possible?

I've ordered some new thermals. I refuse to put the heating or fire on until late October.

squeakytoy · 30/08/2011 20:30

The temperatures in the SE have been well below 18 degrees this week! Indoors and outdoors!

theinet · 30/08/2011 20:31

people want their houses to be 25 degrees and to walk around in t shirt and pants all year, it's madness.

it isnt cold. it was 20 degrees today in London.

our heating doesn't go on until mid Nov and it's off in mid March. We live in a flat which is well insulated and i'm aware this is a short heating "season" but still... heating on, fires, in August? Get a grip! YABU.

bananamam · 30/08/2011 20:34

Scotland here. It is cold. Just had new central heating installed. They finished today but no way its going on until October!! Might have it on for a teat runBlush but don't want to get used to the heat before it's needed or think we will be freezing come actual winterConfused

JajasWolef · 30/08/2011 20:35

November to March only????!!! Jeez.

I have the heating on low today, it was 8 degrees last night and only about 16 today, that is very cool for August.

I live in an old detached house in the sticks so no insulation from other buildings or streets etc. I would be utterly miserable sitting in the cold until November - and no I'm not in t-shirt and shorts, I have two t-shirts and two jumpers on, jeans, socks and converse.

bananamam · 30/08/2011 20:35

"test" not teatHmmBlush

handsomeharry · 30/08/2011 20:38

I'm in Scotland too and have really noticed a change in temperature in the last few days. I feel quite chilled at the moment but will have a warm shower later, fill my hot water bottle and put on an extra layer.

I definitely do not want to put my heating or fire on until October.

However YANBU. Lots of people really feel the cold badly.

ASByatt · 30/08/2011 20:39

That's ok bananamam, this is MN - I'd assumed a 'teat run' was something to do with your bfeeding habits! Grin

theinet · 30/08/2011 20:39

I'm sure i'm not alone in putting the heating on only mid Nov -mid March, but in a city like London, in the South, with heat from other buildings and the like, it is perfectly comfortable doing this. Appreciate it may not be in the sticks, old , non insulated houses and the north - but surely not in August.

Mitmoo · 30/08/2011 20:42

Light throw now getting stored, quilt coming out in August!!!!!!!!! Never been known before.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/08/2011 20:49

I'm in Hertfordshire and it's 16 degrees in my house. That's quite chilly and I'm sat on the sofa with a heated throw over me for the first time in months.

mrshess · 30/08/2011 20:50

We have a quilt and sleeping bags for us to keep warm whilst we are downstairs watching tv/having tea etc as we cant afford the heating on for long periods.
Luckily when we have guests they have gotten used to seeing us layered up lol

Deesus · 30/08/2011 20:56

We're exactly the same mrshess! We have a 'living room duvet' especially for this! Grin

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 30/08/2011 20:57

If you're cold you do something about it! It's so good just being able to light our open fire or stove when we're cold. Doesn't cost us a penny! I can't be doing with all this "My heatings off march to october/november." If i'm cold i put the heating on or light the fire, regardless of what month it is!

mrshess · 30/08/2011 21:02

deesus im so glad we arent the only ones with a living room quilt no one else i know does this, i was beginning to think we were odd

LoveInAColdClimate · 30/08/2011 21:06

YANBU! We had a lovely long weekend in Cornwall during which I managed to sunburn my legs, boiling hot and lovely. Came home today and is freezing! I am pregnant and sleepy so already in bed but if I wasn't I would be looking speculatively at the boiler.

Deesus · 30/08/2011 21:07

We are trailblazers mrshess! Where we fearlessly tread (wrapped in a duvet of course) others follow! Wink

MissMap · 30/08/2011 21:45

I lit the fire today.

We used the winter duvet last night, and I wore my furry boots today.

What next?

Please may we have an Indian Summer?

ZonkedOut · 30/08/2011 21:52

YANBU, it's not very cold, but it's all relative, 16 degrees in the house is cold for August.

I think some cosmic joker switched April and August around. Anyone remember that lovely warm weather we had back then?

RedOnion · 30/08/2011 21:55

I have the heating on here. Held off all day and just done jumpers and furry slippers but it is really very chilly and no amount of snoods or blanket things with arms are cutting it!

RedOnion · 30/08/2011 21:56

MissMap - also hoping for an indian summer although apparently it is not going to happen.

Jodianna · 30/08/2011 22:00

Thank goodness for the tropical moments!
:)

TinkerTailorSoldierLibrarian · 30/08/2011 22:04

I'm in shorts and a t-shirt and the window is open a crack to let some air circulate.

Man up the lot of you.

Nihilisticbunny · 30/08/2011 23:10

I have always sat watching tv wrapped up in duvet, we had no radiators, then crappy storage heaters which cooled down at about 5pm, makes sense, my sister calls it the poorly blanket Grin.

We have gch in this house, but even in winter I can only afford to put it on for an hour in the morning and an hour at sundown, luckily the dc's don't seem to feel it and run about merrily in pants.

pigletmania · 30/08/2011 23:11

That is just so wrong! What is wrong with this country Angry, no proper Summer.
