Don't know whether this is an A&E or not, but a very unhelpful very busy Opticians that I rung earlier for advice has told me they can't help.

I have a contact lens wedged at the side of my eye, slightly behind if I'm honest and I can't for the life of me flush it out. It's very sore. Been there well over an hour now. It has happened before (been wearing them for years) but the usual tactic to pop them out isn't working. A piece has ripped off now so it's getting really sore.

Help!

You see, I wouldn't have gone. I lost a whole soft lens for 3 days at the back of my eye before Blush

Hope that they can help :)

Yes go (I used to be a doctor). Big hospitals usually have a special emergency eye department where people go when they get things stuck in their eyes (usually builders!) so go there if you live near a big hospital. Otherwise you may have to wait a while in A&E.

Probably GPs and won't have the right equipment. It is a shame the opticians weren't more helpful though.

How did you get on?

DD2 had a piece of shell (from beach) stuck in the same way yesterday, then I thought it had fallen out, then at bedtime it sort of peeped out at me - bit of a shock but we managed to hold her down and get it out with a wet tissue - really scary. She's fine now, not even a scratch in the eye. Lucky escape - hope you have one too.

Just got back. Lovely Doctor rinsed out my eye and pieced together the lens until it was almost complete (guessing about the missing bit that I'd found earlier). Also flushed it out again, then prescribed some anti histamine drops because my eye was really inflamed and itchy.

Good as new now, but wearing my specs for the next few days Smile

Thanks for all your help earlier.

Thank God for that! Glad you got it sorted.

Loonytoonie · 30/08/2011 16:57

Thanks LeBOF. Goes to show that even though I've been wearing contact lenses for 25 years, you can never be too careful Blush

Glad all is OK. Grin I tried contacts but kept losing one right up in my eye so am stuck with glasses. Angry

happened to me last year - whilst taking out a contact lens it ripped in two and part got wedged in back of eye. Really painful and it may scratched eye/cause infection if not removed. They put some yellow drops in, got this massive cotton bud and managed to retrieve. There was someone else having the same thing done - they will be used to dealing with this.

Glad your OK now Smile
