To throw my welly at the dog

I had southern fried chicken nuggets (from M&S no less) for my teen son. He loves them (I hate them)so I made some chips and had a (very) occasional steak for myself which ds does't like.
My dog jumped on the counter and nicked my steak, so I threw said welly at him
(I did miss) but now he's skulking around glaring at me.
He knows how cross I am, and I'm sitting here ignoring him even though he keeps trying to catch my eye, and when he does he wags his tail.
So do I ignore him or do I forgive?
How will he learn, I'm just so cross?
The nicking things of the counter is coming more prevalent, I adore him but I know that he's already forgotten why I'm annoyed and me huffing doesn't do it really, does it.
I put this on AIBU because I'm not sure if it should be on the doghouse or relationships. Smile Hmm

Goodness it is so hard. I cannot imagine how other people manage to prevent their dogs from jumping up on cabinets and dragging people along on the lead.

Awaiting the day when dog licences come back and every ahole who just "wants" a dog can't get a dog.

TakeMeDrunkImHome · 29/08/2011 23:11

I bet your dog pulls on the lead OP

Vallhala · 29/08/2011 23:15

hairy, I've managed to reach my 40s without ill effect from dogs in the kitchen and I suspect that I'm not alone. I know that anecdotes don't equal data but I reckon that I'm not unusual in my dog-owning good health!

TakeMeDrunkImHome · 29/08/2011 23:19

Val - I find you and I again on the same thread saying the same things.

I was ripped up the other day for being honest about a poster wanting to buy a designer cat rather than rescuing one. Ah well!

GeraldineAubergine · 29/08/2011 23:22

Nice derailment of a lighthearted thread then.

TakeMeDrunkImHome · 29/08/2011 23:23

Val - perhaps you and I, and many many other excellent dog owners, would wonder how people fail to keep their dogs off kitchen tops, without permission, or fail to stop their dogs dragging them from lampost to tree.

Very sad thing IMO is that "people" will more than often blame the dog rather than looking at the ahole on the end of the lead.

VivaLeBeaver · 29/08/2011 23:24

Bingo

usualsuspect · 29/08/2011 23:28

TakeMeDrunkImHome , you just proved a point

well done

MmeLindor. · 29/08/2011 23:33

Our dog used to steal selection boxes. No matter how well we hid them.

usualsuspect · 29/08/2011 23:35

My dog nicked three greggs sausage rolls of the kitchen table Grin he wasn't fussy about his food

LadyBeagleEyes · 29/08/2011 23:35

Yes he pulls Takeme.
But I live in a village in one of the remotest parts of the Highlands, where my front door leads to mountains and from my back door a walk round the shore of a loch where he can run and swim without a soul in sight,.
His recall is crap but the chance of anything ever happening to him is negligble.sp, but I still want him to come back when i call him.
I actually know the name and owner of every dog in the village.
I'm lucky to live in a place where dogs don't get in the way of people and vice versa.

Sounds lovely Lady ,when can I visit Grin

DeccaTreuhaft · 29/08/2011 23:36

My eldest cat nicked a steak whilst it was being fried in a cast iron skillet.

I came in the kitchen to find the cat eating the steak on the floor whilst his brother was pawing at the mushrooms on the worktop Hmm

MmeLindor. · 29/08/2011 23:41

I want a tea drinking dog

PersonalJesus · 29/08/2011 23:41

LadyBeagle, I think you are living in my dog's dream house. Envy

Grin
usualsuspect · 29/08/2011 23:42

Many a time I left my cup on the coffee table to come back to an empty cup and a dog with a guilty look in his eye

TakeMeDrunkImHome · 29/08/2011 23:44

Just train the dog not to pull. It is so bloody easy. I perhaps came across a bit OTT and nasty. Was not the intention. Although, I cannot STAND seeing dog owners who allow their dogs to pull when it is perhaps one of the easiest things to teach a dog.

TakeMeDrunkImHome · 29/08/2011 23:45

When he pulls, you walk. Teaches him = I pull, she/he walks. Dog is training you.

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 29/08/2011 23:48

Err TakeMe, weren't you the only person to mention pulling?

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 29/08/2011 23:49

Nope sorry, Lady said he pulls Blush

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 29/08/2011 23:51

'Pulls' suddenly looks like a really wrong word, when typed
